What's your favorite thing about owning ball pythons?
As the title states, what's your favorite thing about owning ball pythons?
What attracted you to get a ball python instead of any other type of snake?
How long have you been keeping balls?
My favorite thing about ball pythons is probably being able to hold/view/buy so many different colors and patterns of them. They're genetics are so unique!
I picked bps over other types of snakes because of their size. I wanted something a little larger but not too big. Once I found out how easy they were to take care of I was hooked.
I went to a reptile show about 4-5 months ago, got my first female normal. Was literally one of the most exciting days of my life! Now I'm currently having to build new racks, and all my ball pythons are getting their own reptile room this weekend once I get everything done.
Never knew I would get this far.. totally wasn't planning for it to get this far. Still have a couple new additions that I've purchased but haven't come yet due to the cold weather where I live. Waiting sucks! :P
Also I'm going to a reptile show this weekend, its about 3+ hours from me, but so worth it! Haha well anyways I'll stop rambling before I get too off topic.
Looking forward to reading your replies! :snake:

I too love all of the different morphs. I really like all snakes, but what I love about ball pythons is their size. They don't get too big, and they aren't too small. Housing them doesn't take up too much room. On top of all this, they are very easy to handle (for the most part, lol).
I have a boa and a milk snake, but all of my other snakes are ball pythons.

I love their adorable little faces and that they just chill with ya.

i love their size. i held my first BP about 4 months ago and i was instantly hooked. Its also nice how easy it is to care for them. I've had my BP for a few months now, and already have plans on at least 4 more lol

I like holding them the most. I like how easy they are to take care of. Size is also good.

I like them for all of the other reasons people listed but also for the genetics aspect of it. I love thinking of the different combos you could create breeding the diff snakes to eachother and the odds of what youll get. I was also a big fan of punnett squares in biology class so this is like taking them to the next level. Idk maybe im a weirdo and the only one that does that lol?

My first BP I rescued from a snake call. It was a couple weeks old and found in a bag of mulch by a lady. Really! So later I bought an albino at a show in S.C. They both have great personalities, that is my favorite thing.

I've always liked reptiles. I was attracted to the pythons because of the different Morphs and relatively low maintenance to own them

Re: What's your favorite thing about owning ball pythons?
I've always been an animal lover and have had numerous pets throughout my childhood. Aside from their wide array of color morphs and size, they are just the perfect animal for me. What I love the most about ball pythons is that they are a relatively low maintenance pet when compared to other animals I have had. Being in school and working, I just don't have the time to care for a much higher maintenance pet such as a dog or cat, although I'd love to have one.
Another thing I love is that fact that when housed in a rack, they take up a relatively small space when you have a handful of them such as myself.
I could go on and on, but these are just some to name a few.

I love there personality. Mine favorite part is they are chill and like to sit with you. My first snake was a corn cool snake bit always on the move I still like to hold him bit my bps are my favorite. I also love all the morphs.

Balls are the best. I wasn't sure about a snake "of that size". Until "Mr. Perfect" was handed to me, and I fell in love! They are the perfect size, they like to just hang out with you, aren't too busy. While being trustworthy enough for new comers, and children. They also come in a rainbow of colors if you are bored with "normal".

The look that people give me when I tell them I own snakes and the different morph combos.

For me it is not the morphs at all I love my normals and find them amazingly beautiful as any morph. My greatest joy is the moment when the snake/human 'relationship' over comes the genetic imperative of predator /prey /mate. clearly I am not a mate (:O) and also not prey (accidents do happen but normally) That means I am going to eat my snake at least as far as instinct is concerned. But sometimes (not every snake but many) something happens as you become used to each other, the snake stops being defensive and relaxes and allows handling for a time with out being tense and stressed. That moment when the snake is relaxed easy curious movements and lots of inquisitive tongue flicks. I am no longer a predator prey or a mate I am just there.
Dogs and to a lesser extent cats and a grab bag of other critters have a genetic imperative to group together, a pack of dogs, deprived of that a pack of dog and human will do. We have picked an animal that cannot help but to bond so is that a special bond? On the human side yes on the dog not so much most stray dogs (not abused dogs just lost) will bond and pack with a new human and fairly quickly too they have to genetics.
snakes don't bond but they do over come that genetic code to see people as a predator I have snakes that treat me very differently than my partner, one will always ball up when she has her and never does when I do. Somehow in the little scaley brain I am no threat but my partner well she might be so better safe than eaten right?
That is the coolest part, seen as a warm tree.

I like how they're the perfect size. Not too small, and big enough that people are like damnnn that's a big snake, but not DAMNNNN THAT :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r: IS GONNA EAT ME AND MY FAMILY. lol I can show him off. I like how they just lay on you and chill, so you can be on the computer or watching TV while they just lay on you. Mine goes up my sleeve, then turns back around and rests his head on the top of my hand while I type, with his body staying warm inside my long sleeves. He also balls himself up in between my boobs and rests his head on the top of my shirt hahaha. I also like their little chipmunk cheeks lol. and their pattern is awesome. Mine has a heart, a swirl, and a skull shape on him. They're the perfect snake.

They're beautiful animals. The normals above all. But when I saw my first pied, that really clinched the deal.
I love their awesome dispositions. Yeah, they're lazy. But that's actually good for introducing them to people who aren't used to snakes. And they all have slightly different personalities. I love the morphs. And they're the perfect size: big enough to impress, not big enough to be a threat to anything larger than a rat. Not so big that I have issues providing them with adequate space and food.
Favorite thing? Periscoping, yawning. Do you know you can train them to race each other up stairs? In very slow motion, but I've got a pair that will do it.
Oh, okay, my favorite thing is when kids claim to be scared of them, and then wind up with them twined around their baseball caps and glasses.

I love how relaxed they are, generally. The fact that they don't make noise, and they don't leave hair on your furniture are both a major plus. But the best thing is the fact that relatively speaking, they are pretty cheap to maintain. Of course, this isn't probably the case when you own more than 5 BP's or so. Some increase in the electricity bill perhaps and a 10 dollar per month feeding bill .... Amazing
