QuickQ: How often do you pair?
Hi Folks, just a quick question? how often do you Pair your BPs. I know that need sometime to rest so i was wondering what is the routine of most.
currently i am breeding a normal and pastel and this is what happened.
- Jan 6th introduced male and i got a lock
- Jan 8th i separated them
- Jan 9th fed both of them. they both took a Small to medium rat.
- Jan 10th i introduced the male again. And i got a lock again...
so i wanna know you intervals and rest period say in a months time.
thanks a lot!!! :)

I try to do 3 on and 3 off. If I see a lock, I remove the male after they've unlocked.
I offer food every Sunday (my normal feeding day). Sometimes I give him a little extra time off if, say, his 4th day off would be Sunday, I keep him out to offer food. And if, say, I'm out of town, he stays out, so that may keep him out longer.

x2 on the 3/3 schedule. I feed every six days during breeding season, though, so that I'm never due to feed in the middle of a breeding session. It's just easier on me that way (I feed the night after I move him back to his tub). When I had fewer females for him to breed, I did 3 in and 4 out so I could do a 7-day feeding schedule.

I do the 3 days on 3 days off with a feeding when separated. Early in the season I paired more sparingly but now I am pairing every week since they are glowing and closer to ovulating.

I do it a little different as I don't think they need to breed as often as people think. I only breed a female once every three weeks, she may see males more often but once I see a lock she's good for three weeks. Breeding males will be bred twice a week if there are females available, and males that haven't started breeding get introduced once a week until they start breeding. I leave the male in for two days.

I should clarify on my previous post. I have one male breeding 5 females, which mean each girl gets a visit once a month. The male is the one that's on the 3/3 schedule.

thanks a lot. it seems that 3days in and 3 days out is what most is using. i will follow the same! :) thanks a lot... i guess i am lucky they lock within a couple of hours of pairing. :)

is this for the entire breeding season? meaning until Jan-Feb timing?

Out of curiosity one year, I introduced a male ball python to a female on one day only in February and allowed them to copulate once before I removed him. That was all it took. She produced a clutch of eggs.
So we probably overdo it sometimes regarding frequency of pairings, but the males (at least) don't seem to mind.

Re: QuickQ: How often do you pair?
My male had 2 females he was paired with this season so he was being rotated. He was 3 days in 5 days out. Always feeding when they were out. I stopped introducing him to the females after 2 months because he stopped eating.

Re: QuickQ: How often do you pair?
I'm more with Dave on this. I have a small collection so, my males don't get bred as often as his, but my females generally only see a male once every 4-6 weeks and they stay in anywhere from 3-5 days

Re: QuickQ: How often do you pair?
This is how i do it since we have a 7 day week. :)
Sunday Morning all my breeding males go in with females.
Wednesday Morning before i go to work, they come out. I feed Wednesday Night or Thursday depends on when my rodents come in.
Sunday Night the process starts all over again. Last year we ended with 44 eggs, 3 slugs.
Hope to double that this year!
