Here is a great one snakes are an invasive species

Remember, these myths must be something measurable and something I could graph!
Thanks for the replies! :gj:

Hmmmm....
They will only grow to fit the size of the enclosure they are kept in. (Technically something measurable and graph-able, but not sure how you would go about actually experimenting with that. LOL)
They are slimy -- you could measure responses of people touching a snake for the first time? Ask them what they expect to feel...then ask them what they actually felt after they touched it.
They will chase you down -- video different snakes set on the ground and see if they go after a person's feet, or simply wander another direction or try to flee.
Can't think of any other myths off the top of my head. Sounds like something you're going to need to put some creative energy to. ;)

How about...'don't let a snake lay beside you. They're measuring you for food'
-
I've heard if you put vanilla on a food prey, it entices the snake even if they are a bad feeder
-
That they all have fangs? I've heard this before.

Snakes will eat small children.
Give small children a snake.
Record how many small children are eaten, and how many are not.
Your graph could be a pie chart. If all goes according to plan, no small children will be eaten.
Or you could test a snake's ability to escape it's enclosure. Have the snake's regular enclosure inside of a much larger encloser (binception!) and stage different scenarios to see how long it takes the snake to get out. Things like leaving the lid/doors unlocked, no lid, etc.

They eat children for breakfast

this made me LOL!

Feeding them inside their enclosure makes them more aggressive. You could do a poll on here and graph your results.
Feed Inside-no aggression
Feed outside-no aggression
Feed inside-aggression
Feed outside-aggression

What about the one that says that snakes like BPs eat pets like cats and small dogs. You could measure a snake and see if a cat could fit lol

Here's one:
Girls are all scared of snakes.
Or,
More girls are afraid of snakes than boys are.

i looked up snake myths on google, but didn't find anything good for a science project. you might just make something up, like testing if the snake can learn to do a maze or something, like a rat can. That would be kind of cool :)

This is easy.
"If you drop a hair from a horse's tail into water, it will turn into a snake."
[Appalachian folklore...no doubt fueled by copious amounts of bad 'shine, i.e. "He's seeing snakes."]
All the OP needs is a horse tail hair and a glass of water.
Voila!
Instant viper!
:snake:
[or not]

Haha! Hahahaha! Oh my good gracious, pie chart!! BINception!!! I don't care who you are, thats funny right there...

I think pigfat has the best plausible idea, and it's also a good idea to use this forum as a poll. It could be difficult to actually experiment without 1. several years or 2. hundreds of snakes.
Man, I've always been terrible with science projects, so I have nothing to contribute in a helpful way... but even if this thread isn't particularly useful it sure is funny!

Myths?
Snakes are evil
Snakes are sneeky
Snakes will cause incontinence :D well maybe for some people
Oh! Oh! Oh! Here's one you can graft with some slight research. Python's in Florida are going to grow into monster sizes and eat your children and pets. Mawhaaaaa
I wonder if Florida has forgotten about the crocks, cotton mouths, and Hillbillies they have living in those swamps.

run the rat through the maze first and then have it waiting at the end of the maze! depending on the laziness to food drive ratio in your snake it may or may not complete the maze.

Thanks haha. I would tell you I'd be here all night but that would mean I'd need to be here all day, too.
