May I see your favorite snake?
Hi everybody, I am very new to the herping hobby and have only 1 bp right now. I hear everyone talking about the different breeds and have drooled over some of the pictures but I know nothing about each breed. I'm hoping that some of you might endulge me a little and share pictures and information about your favorite bp. ie... what breed? What are the characteristics of the breed? Why is it your favorite? etc.

This is Baloo. I don't know much about her because I bought her at Petsmart and they didn't know anything either. lol I understand that she is a normal but I love her golden colored spots. I don't really know what the sex is I just call her a she because I want her to be female. hehe I'm guessing her age to be around 3 months old but not sure on that either. Anyway, I enjoy her goofy behaviors. She often roams around her viv hanging from her branch, slithering in and out of her hides, and lounging around her water dish. Her overall personality seems to be clownish as if thinking, "Duh...Which way do I go, which way do I go." lmao

I only have one bp right now but I love my albino girl to death. I searched around and looked t all sorts of morphs in my price range and I just love the look of albinos. Now that I have learned more about the different morphs I can honestly say that I'm obssessed with recessive traits. Mainly pieds as posted above, axanthics and albinos plus more. Just the things you can do with them and the changes and different looks are just amazing to me. Don't get me wrong I love all the morphs especially spiders and ghosts can create some amazing snakes when bred. Honestly I just love the possibilities and every morph has its own beautiful characteristic. But if you wanna see pics of my girl then there are tons in my gallery.

Just noticed I put ghosts in the non recessive category or at least made it seem that way after I posted it. Well just love them and yes I know they are a reccessive gene. But yeah just didn't feel like sounding dumb!

I know its a pretty low morph but still my favorite snake. I have never seen another pastel like her. She has so much white on her and keeps getting brighter with each shed.

Wow! They are all so beautiful! May i ask, what is the differences between say a het and a pied? Or a spider and a bumblebee? In other words how would i know what it is if i see it?

Het isnt a type of morph, it means Heterozygous. Meaning they carry the genetics for it but it isnt visual. I am not an expert on genetics so I cant go into detail, but thats the basics. If you want to learn more about it there are threads all about genetics.:gj:

if you look at my pastals belly, shes got whats called train tracks, they are a so called het pied marker. Some believe in markers some dont, but I know she is 100% so just an example. Also one of my favorites I dont yet own, I want a medium white piebald and a black mojave.:gj:

"Bones" my Male Queen Bee is by far my favorite. I know some people say snakes don't like being held/touched but that's not the case with this guy. As soon as I walk into the room he's fighting to get out of the tub. Once I take him out he wants nothing more than to sit in my hand and have his head rubbed. He never tries to escape and will hang out as long as I have him out.

I'm not sure that I could choose between all these snakes if I had too. They are incredible! I got Baloo after researching pets that would fit into my busy and stressful life. Snakes just seemed so soothing and easy to take care of. hahahaha now a couple months later I've spent somewhere around $1000. and spend every available moment with her. I never expected to love her so much. Is it common to fall so head over heals?

I would really like to know more about all of your favorites. What makes you perfer that breed? Or is it just that particular snake? Are there differences in the personalities of different breeds? I'm in awe of all the beauty I see but I still think Baloo is the most beautiful. lol

Please fill free to share anything you want about your favorite bp. Stories, facts, myths, opinions, anything. hehe

I gave the picture of my lesser completely based on her beauty. Like I said I love all of my snakes, but I guess as far as my favorite it would have to be my male normal Julius. He's just perfect, and the first snake I ever got. He's so docile and friendly AND a strong eater. I fell in love with snakes starting with him, it's normal to become completely absorbed by this hobby.

Yea what's up with that? I never expected to be this consumed. I've had lots of pets over the years but never felt this way before. By the way I looked at your gallary and think your snakes are wonderful at least from what I can see, but the picture of your son with his snake was just too cute. His expression reminded me of my grandson when he's about to wet his pants from excitement. lol

Ohh choosing favorites are hard. I always keep changing. I guess it's whomever seems to be my flavor of the week. Last week it was my pied:
    http://img.tapatalk.com/47a9a4cc-a304-41f7.jpg
This week it seems to be my sterling ( only because he was such a pita when I first got him and he's turned into being a stud breeder and im so proud of him!)
    http://img.tapatalk.com/47a9a4cc-a380-e344.jpg
Literally I've got 50 something breeders here and 15 or so babies. I really can't chose whom is my total favorite. I love them all but I go through phases. Who's looking real hot at any point is my fav!
My first I still have is a cute normal boy named pantera. He was a rescue and he started all this mess 6 years ago. My first baby I hatched out is also my favorite. She's a pastel beauty and everytime I look at her I am reminded how much work I've put in or how far I've come, to get where I am. She gives me perspective.
    Then

Well I have a couple that I could call my favorite. I have a female vanilla, who I feel has an amazing unquie pattern and is just a gorgeous gal. I also have my male lesserbee. I love the way lesserbees look and he's a good example and for that he's on the top of my list.

Well, of the snakes that I own, my favorite morph would have to be "Kabal", my male Spinner. I just love his coloring and his pattern, and the breeding possibilities! But probably my favorite would have to be one of my normal females "Zatanna". Love her light coloring and how clean she looks, but mostly her personality! She is an amazing snake!

I have as many favorites as I do snakes, I love all of my babies.

One of my especial favorites is Athena. She came from Pat at Action Reptiles and was born with no eyes. This is her.

As far as beauty goes, my favorite is Kuri, my blushback cinnamon female. Here she is.

One thing I want to point out, with ball pythons, the different colors aren't breeds, but morphs. They are all the same breed, just different paintjobs. :D

Thanks for pointing that out Gale! You beat me to it! Athena is amazing - I haven't seen a pic of her yet, although I've heard you speak of her. Wonderful story! :gj:

I love all my snakes. I only have 1 BP at the moment, although I do want a couple more, but of them all, my female boa, Peaches, is particularly special for a number of reasons. Here she is...
    http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/.../peaches01.jpg

Peaches is the sweetest and most personable snake I've ever worked with. She love to hang out with me and have her head rubbed and she's always curious about what I'm doing. I love that interaction and interest.

Love this thread :D It's really hard to choose a favorite, seeing as we only have 4 in the house right now. My first pair that I bought together have a special permanent place in my heart, but I'm excited to see my fire girl as she grows. My boyfriend has a normal male that has the goofiest personality too

I suppose for the moment my favorite would be my pastel girl, she's a bit more cautious than the others, but she's normally very comfortable around me and my boyfriend. Monty my mojave boy is much more personable and my go-to introduction snake to any friends, I suppose they're both favorites in a way
