Biggest story in the Ball Python World for 2011?
Vote for the biggest story in the Ball Python World for 2011! Every year there seems to be major stories in our industry. Which one do you think made the biggest impact in 2011?

Wow that's a great question off the top of my head.

    1. Pro Exotics losing their whole Ball python collection. So depressing can't begin to put myself in their shoes.
    2. Crazy Ball bids mess.
    3. Facebook auctions really taking off.
    4. Caramel Albino pied AMAZING!
    5. All around growth of the Ball python industry.

What about the Ohio ban? I know that made a lot of attention...though it's not good, but neither are any of the other ones you posted lol

    Done.

Personally, I think there's little to consider here. There's one event that stands out as by far having the greatest impact on the "Ball Python World"...as well as the entire herping community. Not to mention the shattering emotional storm that came with it. Everything else is chump change compared to the loss of Pro Exotics. It still makes me want to cry.

Pro Exotics by far. That was tragic

Pro Exotics, not only because of the tragedy of them losing all of their snakes but because of the unique and rare animals lost to the gene pool.

    Pro Exotics for sure.

The clowns a ball bids should just be forgotten.

The others may be bigger stories once they are proven one way or the other.

No other event had more impact on me than hearing about the Pro Exotics fire. Arguments over morphs being proven or unproven, or having health issues, are pretty standard fare around here. The ballbids.com thing was interesting, and certainly provoked a lot of discussion, but it just doesn't have the same kind of effect on the community as the loss of an entire company's worth of animals and the gene pool that went with them.

The pro exotics fire makes me cry every time I think about it. All those poor snakes dying in that matter is just so sad. And then chad brown loved those reptiles so much. He had a passion for snakes since college. If it was me I'd probably be so sad thinking about all my babies that I'd never get to hold again :( I respect him so much because of how strong he is!

To me its the PE fire. That was the greatest hit to the BP world in some time and may be the the biggest of time. The where innovators and pioneers in the industry that actually cared for there animals more then "just stock in a rack". JLC put it the best in my mind.

PE fire was a tragedy for sure. also on top of the dessert and toffee fiasco lets not forget the banna/coral glow whatchamacallit. ballbids? ballbids who?

but the story of the year at least if you look through the threads on this site IMHO would have to be.

    this.

It makes me think back to when ballbids claimed they had made the largest controversy in the ball python community and I had to laugh. Pro Exotics loss is far more important and sad.

Well the Desert female egg issue has certainly continued into 2012. I don't know if anyone else has been following on kingsnake and blbc, but this issue won't die down this year...

Wow.. I've been off the radar so long I hadn't even heard of this ballbids thing until today! I just read that entire thread and holy crap! I'll definitely be keeping up with it to see if they try to get back in "business". What a fiasco..

As for the biggest event, I say the PE fire as well. It was shocking and heartbreaking. I kept up with all their FB posts and pictures. I still can't believe it happened.

The pro exotics fire is the biggest tragedy ever in the ball python industry. Chad had so much excitement in early spring about his collection. I'm a professional athlete and Chad is a mentor to me. I can't even describe the pain I feel for him and his staff. I really can't wait to produce some stuff to help get him back in the swing of things.

You know a little someone seems to think they're business is the biggest "story" ever.

The Pro exotics really hit though... not just for the gene's we lost, but because of how many snakes died that day.. :(

I guess it depends if you care more about drama or human tragedy?

You forgot the Banana/Coral Glow drama btw

The loss of Pro Exotics by far and the vast majority agrees. That was such a tragedy.

I would say the PE fire, just because human tragedy is above all but I'm guessing the fallout of the Toffino is over genetic stability? That'd be my number two then, because you don't play with gene's like that without unneeded suffering.

What?? There's no "unneeded suffering" involved with the toffino, unless you're referring to people's pocketbooks.

The "controversy" regarding this combo is that the much-hyped toffee (or candy) ball is compatible with your "common" albino ball. The full ramifications of this compatibility are not understood yet, but it may drop the price of toffees much faster than they might have dropped otherwise...and it makes the genetics of any toffee-looking snake suspect because you may not be able to tell if there is "ordinary" albino in the genetics or not.

Like I said "I guess", haha. I read through the threads and didn't really get the point of it being a controversy. I understand large scale breeding and businesses and what not, but if you can make a snake look great without the price tag; why not? I don't know, I personally don't look at my animals as money bags so I'm not personally affected by it.
