    What is this!?
First off my apologies if this is in the wrong place, I looked and was unsure where to put this thread.

Anyways I was browsing my fav wallpaper site and came across a snake that I have never seen before, can anyone identify this?

I'm personally not to good with hots. It looks like wither a viper or a rattlesnake from the head, but to be honest I'd lean more towards viper. But I do.agree, it's a beautiful snake!

Oh thanks John! Atheris Hispida AKA the Hairy Bush Viper or the Rough Scaled Bush Viper.

Here is the wiki page for it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atheris_hispida

    fyi rattlesnakes are vipers.

but i would say the first statement of rough scale is most likely what it is.

think of it from an animal hierarchy point of view.

    Subphylum: Vertebrata
    Class: Reptilia
    Order: Squamata
    Suborder: Serpentes
    Family: Pythonidae
    Genus: Python

Snakes are confusing. But yeah that is a Rough Scaled Bush viper. But yeah Vipers are such a huge species. But they are split into two main groups of Pit vipers and Pitless vipers. But all rattlesnakes are Pit Vipers.

^^^^ this is a atheris squamiger not hispida.
to the original poster that is without a doubt Atheris Hispida, the rough scaled or hairy bush viper. and yes they are both old world pitless vipers (vipera)
