Craigslist Rant

So I've been trying to sell a few snakes on Craigslist recently to help pay for bills.

I don't think I would make my worst enemy try to sell snakes on Craigslist. People are just slimy scumbags waiting to try and scam you.

This email is definitely not the first of its kind I've received, but it comes with a pic. :rolleyes:

"ill give you my pastel male het albino, hes a cross albino x borneo..hes a biter and 75.00"

I just...want to hurt people sometimes. Could I please just deal with a nice honest Joe for once? Someone who doesn't think I'm a total idiot waiting to be taken advantage of? :rage:

I had to quit using Craigslist. I try to stick to local reptile classifieds for that exact reason (and others :rolleyes: ).

One thing I have noticed, at least here locally, is I always run into the same people, over and over, so when that happens, I just add them to a list :D

I need to start keeping a list. Unfortunately there aren't very good local classified ads here (that I can find). Back in Utah I was spoiled with KSL ads. :(

I can't even keep a listing for snakes up on craigs here. I keep getting flagged.

Craigslist is weird. I go on sometimes to scout for aquariums at a good price, but that's about it. Too many overly sensitive uneducated pet activist types

I always like the rat ads that say "For pet only, NOT snake food. Rehoming fee of $30" LOL WTH. Yeah I'm going to drive all the way to your house, put on a whole front like I want the animal as a pet, drive back and reward my ball with a $30 rat :rolleyes:

what you dont think that paying 30 bucks for it will make it taste better lol, I have actually gotten some good deals off craigslist, and have had alot of laughs at craigslist. People selling het pastels, and trying to pass off spiders as bees and anything that looks normal has to be a yb or vanilla.... they think that because they cant tell the difference I cant.... I think its funny at best and love it when they contact me and try to sell me stuff this way.....It kinda makes em mad when you laugh at them.......

I love craigslist in my area. :rolleyes: I don't think I could keep a post up for longer than a 15 minutes here if I tried to sell a snake. The only post I can keep up is for a cage I wanted to sell and the same 13 year old girl would reply to it every time I renewed the posting asking me if I would drive 1-2 hours to bring it to her and give it to her for free. I started just sending her e-mails straight to spam mail.

I always ask loads of questions before handing over an animal. My bps ended up going to a now friend of mine who is trying to get into bps. I keep tabs on how the snakes are doing too. :)

I use Faunaclassifieds for all my selling. They have a good base.

I can't keep an ad up in the pet section. There must be a dedicated group of breeder police in my area.


I noticed tho if you post in the farm section ads stay up longer. Miss those people just scanning whole pet section but if one searches specifically for a snake or gecko or whatever it will come up. Herps are technically livestock amirite? :D

My ads stay up for the most part, though I did have a week or two where some moron kept flagging me and posting "reply" ads telling everyone I was an evil scammer trying to take their money. :rolleyes: Because clearly MY ad was the suspicious one, not the people selling their het pastels!

I really wonder about flaggers some days. I know it's not easy to get an ad flagged for removal. I decided to try one day after someone posted something that was in clear violation of the TOS (they weren't trying to sell anything either) and I got bored after 5 minutes. You have to refresh the ad and keep clicking prohibited. I don't know how many it takes to get an ad taken down, but I certainly didn't succeed after 5 minutes.

As for the het pastels, don't you know they are an extremely rare morph that you can only find on craigslist and bad pet stores? You breed a pair of them and get this super normal looking snake that you can then sell as pastel because that's the only thing it could be since both the parents were het pastels. :P I really do love all the misinformed people on craigslist. :rolleyes:

I think there are programs people can download that flag Craigslist posts. Not even joking, people have made programs JUST for that.

Someone tried to trade their "normal het fire" for my bee. LOL. :rofl:

If you want reptiles, only deal with reptile classifieds. Craigslist is a joke. I only deal through kingsnake and fauna.
