Angolan pythons :)[img]
I have always been interested in angolan pythons and I just started buying some up in the past couple weeks. I'm excited to start breeding these guys- I think it will be fun to breed snakes that everybody else isn't breeding. I love ball pythons and their morphs, but it's gotten to a point where I skip over a lot of tables at shows because all they have are a bunch more lessers, pieds, pastel/spider/etc combos... but when i see stuff like womas, angolans, high end lizards, etc I always stop and take a closer look.
So far I have a pair of babies to raise up and a pair of proven adults to breed next year :)
Anyways here are some pics:

Oh and the babies in their show deli cups:

Thanks for looking! Anybody else have angolans?

Someday...
Thanks for sharing the awesome pictures.

beautiful, i love angolans, hows theyre temperament?
-
I LOVE Angolan Pythons! I really want to get into breeding them in the future. There are so very few in the market right now that by the time I am in a position to start playing with them they should be taking off.. I would really like to see Angolans become a more sought after species.
Cheers.

They're gorgeous! :gj:
I don't have any yet but I hope to have a pair some day. :D
-
sweet snakes! bps closest cousin. i will def have a pair of these before i croak. i cant wait till they get into morphs with these guys!
-
Any morphs at all yet with these? Kind of looks like a cross of a blood and a carpet or something? (a very leaned-out blood of course). Judging by the pics thats what I got, is that a fair comparison? What are their termperments like? Cause they're really pretty snakes.

How freakin cool! These are the coolest snakes and I hope to have a pair myself sometime in the future.
-
I have heard that they can be a little meaner than ball pythons, but mine seem to have good temperaments so far. Haven't really messed with them too much yet since they are still settling in.
They are very closely related to ball pythons, as far as a comparison I guess they are kind of like a ball python / carpet python lol... they have a much leaner body than a ball python. The coolest part about them I think is their scales- they are like little beads, where a ball python has flat scales, these are more "3D" when you feel them.
They are also a little less timid than balls. They seem interested in what I am doing when I open the tub, and when I was checking them out at the show they were very active and liked to cruise around as I handled them. Certainly a lot more than a "pet rock" ;)
I don't know about any morphs so far, although I know Casey Lazik's line has been known to produce some striped animals... the 4 I have are from the houston zoo lines. The problem with angolan morphs is that nobody is out collecting them in the wild.

LOVE me some Angolans. Awesome dude. and if you so happen to hatch any babies at any point in time you let me know.... just saying.
-
Maybe in the future I'll be able to grab one off of you! :P
I love love love them so much! Good luck!

I love how they look too... although if an albino angolan pops up I'd gladly sell my left hemipene to afford it

i second this. lol

Well if all goes as planned I'll have a clutch next year. fingers crossed... my friend whoused to own the adults told me the girl laid her eggs in the water bowl last season! lol.
-
OMG, I love Angolans!! I fell head-over-heels with one at the recent San Jose Expo, and it was REALLY hard to hand her back to the seller... unfortunately I don't have that kind of money now, so it'll have to wait until the future. :(
Good luck with your planned clutches! Hey, maybe I'll have the money by the time your babies arrive? ;)

Talked to my buddy and by our reasoning based on when they last bred and their current size the adults should actually be ready to go this season. Plugged in the night drop attachment to their helix last week, let's see how things go!

Good luck with the breeding, my next pair of snakes will be Angolans. Love them, I have handle some at some shows they are awesome to say the least. If ever things in Angola get better collectors will be able to collect specimens and perhaps even some morphs. Your pics look awesome.

I love Angolan Pythons! They are my dream snakes to work with! It's too bad I'm in Canada and they are illegal to own, breed, or sell without very hard to obtain permits. My buddy has been on the list to receive a breeding trio for 5 years..
Thanks for sharing! I always get excited to see Angolans.

Did not know they were Illegal in Canada. Can you explain? Thanks in advance.

Re: Angolan pythons :)[img]
From what I understand (this info has been passed onto me through a friend, I will check and validate it..)
My Understanding is that Angolans are illegal to import as the are illegal to export from Angola. Angolan Pythons are their national snakes, and it's illegal to take them out of the country. So any animals in the USA or anywhere else on the globe are technically smuggled or the product of smuggled animals. Canada wont allow them through the border (again, I'll do my own research and get back to you guys).
That's what I have been told. I'll see what I can find for ya'll.
Cheers,
Chris.
Okay I can't find any information to substantiate the claims that they are illegal. I must have been mistaken. My appologies. I found some information about the Angolan Civil War that had affected export up to this point.
I'll keep looking.. I don't know why he would tell me they are illegal if they are not.
Mind you I am interested in breeding them, and he might want to deter me from jumping on the project before he does. I have been looking for them in Canada for a while now and I can't find any LOL I figured there was validity to his claims.
Just goes to show you, do your own homework.

Re: Angolan pythons :)[img]
Angolans have been on my wish list for a while. At the last Raleigh show, I was about to get one. I had the snake in my hands and the cash, but then another snake on my wish list caught my eye. After comparing and debating for a while, I settled on the other snake, who was a couple of years older, a little more relaxed, and looked like he really wanted a home, so I came home with the Occindentalis. Maybe I'll find an Angolan at the upcoming Myrtle Beach expo

I am certain if they are NOT illegal in CANADA, you can get them shipped to somewhere in the border on the US side if you have a friends address, you can then drive down to the US and pick them up and drive them home. Again that is only if they are NOT illegal in CANADA. As far as the war still ongoing in Angola, this is the reason collectors have not been able to collect wild specimen to introduce to captive populations, but once this war is over if ever, you may see morphs of Angolans start to show up in collections from captive breeding, just like the Ball pythons.

The Angolan is one species I think would be better kept "pure", to say I hope there's no Angolan x Ball crossbreeding or morphs. A "regular" Angolan is too nice on it's own IMO.
-
I can't wait to get myself a pair, they're beautiful snakes!
-
I am not saying crossing the species, I am saying getting wild Angolans from the wild to breed to pure captive Angolans. You don't think there is a wild Angolan carrying the Albino gene? More than likely there is. I myself am a purest and do not like any crosses of snakes whatsoever. Hope I was not misunderstood.
