Mason's Rant of the Day
Well, well, well...
My car's engine light came on Friday. So I dropped it off at my favorite shop today to see what it is. Turns out something called an "Emissions Pump Tester" or something like that is messed up and needs to be replaced. And it's gonna run me over $400 to fix!
FML! Spending more money I don't have. Yay me! I am already in debt up to my eye balls what's a few more bucks!

Make sure they check your Exhaust Bearings and Turn Signal Fluid.
Dude, you're getting screwed. There's no such thing as "Emissions Pump Tester" on your car.
Edit: Let me re-phrase that. Make sure you know exactly what they want to fix. If you have a CEL come on, you can always take it to an Advance/Discount Auto parts, or Napa, they will run the code for you, and let you know exactly what it's saying.
-
Buy a new car, that fixes all your car problems lol
-
my check engine light came on recently... i ignored it for about a week then it went away :weirdface.......
my co-workers told me to always give it time to go away lol. as long as your car runs/sounds normal.. this is the advice i was given. not sure if it's good advice or not, but i was tense the whole time until it went away lol

x2
Have autozone or one of them run the code. in most cases if its a Check engine light (CEL) its just a sensor that needs to be replaced and will take you 15-20 min depending on location. Also the part/parts normally no more than 80 bucks.
Another thing to try is disconnect your car battery for 1 minute and reconnect. drive around for 20-30 min and see if it comes back on.

I've been messing with the same thing on my car. I can't pass emissions with the CEL on.
It is also an evap system problem. I have replace the gas cap and vent solenoid and each has not fixed. I'm only into it 40 bucks though. That seems like an awfully high price for your car. Try googling the error code and your vehicle and might show you the usual fixes.
-
Remember I said "something like that." That's because I have poor short term memory. I know for sure it had something to do with emissions. Anyways, I have worked with this guy for years now and he's an honest guy in my book. He's given me free loaner cars when he didn't have to and knocked prices down when things take longer than expected.
Anyways, it's just annoying having unexpected expenses.
-
lol try having an Ex wife!!! those unexpected expenses go through the roof! try the basic trouble shooting stuff first may save you a few bucks. when you have an ex wife you learn to save a few bucks..
-
I agree about going somewhere to have them run a code. It may be nothing or it may be something that's nothing to worry about or easier and cheaper to fix.
lol@ the ex-wife comment. Even I can agree to that! (seen too many of my guy friends with ex wife issues )

I can always pass emissions here in Atlanta. I just clear the CEL if it's on for whatever reason. Lately I haven't had to.
I passed this September with nothing but open downpipe. No Exhaust, Cat, or Resonator. :D LOL

??? what type of car do you have and is the open downpipe controled by an electronic switch?
:hijackd:

Just so you know, it was the "Leak Detection Pump" and "Fuel Leakage Sensor" that had to be replaced. So basically, these things are used to detect leaks and warn you about them.

Just a slow little neon. ;)
No, I run open down pipe the whole time. I have a full exhaust for it, but I never use it. I like being loud, especially because there's a certain whistle you can hear that gets louder the harder I step on the throttle. :D
It's all about who you know.

Same DP I'm running. I love it as well. I'm still kind of slow, but that's okay by me. What color is yours? Mine is E-Blue.

Yeowch! Best of luck to you, getting it fixed!
Same thing happened to me today. My phone keeled over and my car has started whistling. Luckily though, when I popped the trunk to check it out, it's just the belt going bad. Ordered the piece online and am going to change it once it gets here.
Where are you going to get your stuffed fixed at? I tend to go to Ma and Pa' type shops if it's something I can't fix on my own. Tends to bee cheaper then the big name places and sometimes better quality fixes.
