    Hey Guys,

Just got back from the Kitchener Expo and I spent a little more than I expected.. 75 frozen rats, two 4 foot PVC enclosures and a new breeding pair of pastel Columbian BCIs later and I am broke.. LOL

This is what the girlfriend agreed that we would do for each other for Christmas.

This is Isis the 0.1 Pastel Colombian BCI.

This is Rah the 1.0 Pastel Colombian BCI.

They came as a pair for $150.00. They we're both proven breeders and they believe because they have been kept together since the beginning of the breeding season that there is a good chance that Isis might already be pregnant. Which is okay with me. I just set up to be able to house hatchlings so I'm pretty excited. We also got a killer deal on the PVC's we picked up the PVC enclosures for $175/per.

here's our PVC "rack" as it stands now.

and just for kicks here is the ball python room.

    Thanks for reading ;) cheers.

Looks like a bunch of wonderful pickups (I adore those cages)! I personally wouldn't call those "pastel" Colombians, but they have lovely color none the less :)

oh really? lol I'll take your word for it. I know almost nothing about boas and that is what buddy had them on display as at the expo.. :S .. hmm I will have to look into this further.

thanks :) and I love the black PVC. If I could afford it I would fill every wall in my apartment with them. :P lol

I almost bought a carpet python instead. He was a sweat heart but I got two boas for the price of one carpet python lol.

Oh, I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong, it's just that I like my pastels virtually pepper/speckle-free and very clean. Pastel boas are used like fires are in BPs: they "clean up" other morphs. I personally don't see pastel BCIs as a true morph like a pastel BP is, though I believe some do consider it an actual BCI morph. But, I don't have any pastel Colombians personally nor have I bred them.

They could be pastels. The adults are darker than the babies. The pastel mutation creates a lighter boa that is nearly fleckless. It is often used to "clean up" other colors and patterns. But the adults are going to look more normal than the babies would. Neonates will be very clean and pinkish (almost like a hypo) but they will tend to be more grey and have some flecking as adults.

The female does seem to have more black on her tail than one would normally see on a pastel, but she still could be pastel. It will be interesting to see what the babies look like! They are both very handsome boas!! Good pickups for $150!

Love your racks! I'd give my eye teeth to find a pair of 4' pvc cages for $175!!! :O

Thanks for your responses!! We got such a good deal that we couldn't turn them down. we will be eating nothing but rice and peanut butter sandwiches this week to pay for it LMAO. but it was worth it, they have great personalities and are very heavy. I'm going to weigh them later in the week but it looks and feels like their weight is pretty optimal.

The PVC prices were unbeatable. Even with my discount from a local breeder/ supply store I would be paying over $250.oo so the way I look at it is I saved over 200 bucks.

    Thanks guys.

Very nice pick ups bud, you got a sick deal on those boas and cages!:gj: @daybreaker the pastel boa is an actual morph, although there are a bunch of people that put a pastel name on a non-pastel boa which is lame.

Nice pickups! They are very pretty! Can you slip over to your parents or friends house for a surprise dinner this week? Just kidding. I would do the same thing if I saw something I wanted bad enough:)

Thanks everyone. They are very well tempered and we got a great deal on them. We just got through talking to the guy who owned them before us and he was a boa breeder. According to him:

Rah the male was born in Late May 2005 and has fathered 3 groups of babies including one that belonged to the female we bought with him.

Isis the female was born in Early June 2006 and has mothered a group of 16 live and healthy young. 3 stillborn and 2 slugs.

We brought them home on Sunday and against my better judgement decided to try feeding them F/T on Monday. To my surprise they both took and freaked me out a little actually! LOL Their feeding response was crazy, and these being my first big snakes, I wasn't really prepared for it. But they took and coiled and ate no problem!

We're still giving them a week before we play with them but once we pull them out we will take lots of pictures to share with everyone.

    Thanks for reading :)

Pastel in boas is a poly-genetic trait. Pastels have reduced black pigment with a general washed out side markings. Usually a reduced amount of speckles as well. Color has nothing to do with it, but it does allow the color to be seen better. It is a bit of subjective and I believe there are degrees of pastel. I have seen some fairly low color pastels and seen high color none pastels.

Beautiful and a heck of a deal.
