New Addition
I just can't help myself, I see something I want and for the right price and it comes home with me. :P
I got this pretty little girl today when I went to the reptile store for some crickets for my cresties. From what the owner told me it seems that she hasn't been handled much, but she's still a sweet little girl. The problem is, instead of trying to bite me, she just musks on me. :puke:
I'm going to have to work with her to reach the point where I can handle her without feeling sick from the smell. :P
Here she is in her temporary tub. I have a 30 breeder I'm going to clean out and put her in this week until I buy some permanent caging early next year. Let me know what you think of her.

Thanks! She's a Dumeril's Ground Boa. She's still just a baby. What amazes me about her is how heavy bodied she is. I'm used to BPs and Red Tails but she's like somewhere in between. :D

Thanks! I really like her. There was another female at the store that I almost got. She was a little smaller and she had a lot more color too her, but she was also darker. I really like how light this one is. :)

She's awesome, the body type was the first thing i noticed about her since shes a boa, what are their personalities like compared to a RTB?

So far I've noticed that when she's stressed she musks instead of trying to bite like my RTB did when I first got her. Unlike my RTB she doesn't seem too interested in my hand when I reach in to touch her where as my RTB will follow my hand movements. From what I understand Dumeril's tend to have very gentle personalities where as RTBs can have attitudes some times. I'll be able to give a better comparison in a few weeks after she's had time to settle in and I've been able to interact with her more. :)

Interesting, im eager to hear whether or not she is as intelligent and curious as RTBs are.

Beautiful Dumeril's.... Great pickup...

She is beautiful. You guys are killing me with the Dumerils. I am really trying not to get one. Seems like every time I get on the Bp.net lately somebody has gotten one :P I think their colors and patterns are so awesome. Keep us updated with mom pictures please :)

I'll let you know how it turns out. She does seem curious but she seems more tentative than my RTB. I'm not sure if that's stress related though.

Lol, it was actually some of the pictures of the adults that cemented my desire to have one. I'm sure I'll be posting lots of pictures of her as she grows. :D

yea ive noticed all of a sudden theres a bunch of ppl posting about dumerils. up until earlier this month i hadnt heard anything about them, started looking into them and then boom, half a dozen ppl have new dumerils, including myself :P.
my dumeril is in shed and just ate so i definitely cant mess with her which is killing me but when i first took her outta the bag and was setting her up she seemed pretty calm and inquisitive about everything so im really looking forward to her.
i went to a pet store and they had a dumeril of similar size to the one you just got and i was really thinking bout getting it but decided that was a bad idea. good luck with your new dumeril.

She is beautiful, congrats!
-
now you just have to go back and get the male!

Re: New Addition
She's gorgeous! Congratulations! I can't wait for my new girl to get here in a few days. I just hope she doesn't musk on me like your girl did. :P Can't wait to see more of her! :gj:

Gorgeous Dumerils!! Her pattern seems less busy along her back than most - very unusual and very pretty! She certainly likes her water bowl, lol!
....Man....I wish our petstore would get some of these more unusual snakies in. All they ever have is corns and the occasional milk and/BP. And they do a nice job with their reptiles so I'd be interested sometimes. But no luck. ....bummer for me.... :tears:

Lol, one of the things I've noticed is that we seem to do things almost as a group. I've noticed a lot of people seem to get the same morph around the same time. I think this site is the problem. Someone will post an amazing picture and people will think I need one of those! :P
I'm trying to let my girl settle in, the only reason I took pictures is because she left a nice mess in the tub shortly after I put her in it. >_<

Haha, I will probably wait on the male. I think there is a good chance all of the ones he has are related and I'd like an unrelated pair. :D

Thanks! She does seem to love the water bowl, so much so that I think I'm going to buy a tub to put in her tank as a water dish instead of the smaller bowl I have. I honestly think she was drinking at one point so that if she felt the need to she could pee on me, but that might be giving her too much credit.
I love and hate having a really nice specialty reptile store within driving distance because while it's nice to have a good supplier locally it's hard to resist temptation not to bring anything home with me. I did contemplate buying her before I went to the store but I was really hoping I could resist. So it's both a blessing and a curse. :P

Nice pick up, she's a beauty. Just make sure there aren't any mites on her. The water bowl deal.
-
I'm dying to get a boa, but I'm scared of IBD. Beautiful pickup.
-
beautiful snake man! definate :gj: coloring and patterning is amazing on that one.
-
Re: New Addition
Wow, she is stunning!!!! I told myself I was done adding any snakes to my collection and now you've got me thinking - LOL!!!!
I would like one snake that gets larger than my bp's and I think a dumeril is probably my best option.
I don't know if I can convince my husband on this idea though.

IBD really isn't as prevelant as you might think. If you buy from a reputable breeder, you really don't have too much to worry about. Or from a reputable store like Kindra did, that's ok too - especially if the boa is older and you can observe it for awhile before buying, you're better off. Just do a strict quarantine for new boas and you'll be fine as long as you educate yourself about the source - that's the most effective way to avoid IBD. :gj:
Feel free to PM me for more details if you're really interested in a boa. ;)

Thanks! :) I've been on the lookout for mites, but I think she likes the water bowl because she's in a tub without a hide at the moment and the water makes her feel more secure.

Thanks, boas are amazing. Initially I was concerned about IBD until I realized 90% of what I was reading about it was from the 1980s. While it will always be a concern if you buy from a good source then there is a good chance you won't come across it. :)

I've given up on telling myself I'm done for a while. Ever time I say it I'm just lying to myself it seems because next week I'm getting something new in.
Dumeril's are amazing, but I also love my hypo jungle RTB. She's my pretty little princess. :D
