    Hello from SOCAL
Hi everyone. i just wanted to start off by saying this is a great board full of excellent information and to top it off everyone is always helping each other.

I just bought my new lemon pastel ball python today. He is 3 months old and weighs in at 50 grams. He's my first snake ever so yeah pretty cool. The owner of the shop said he was fed last monday. I fed him right when i brought him home in his plastic container. Within 5 seconds of holding the mice in front of him he already attacked! Way to start things off! :) I placed the container in my drawer for the meantime and let him do his thing. He finished it quick!

While having him eating, i set up my tank. I have a 30x12x12 tank, natural cypress mulch, 2 hides, 1 water dish, 1 uth, and a night black heat bulb. I have a flimsy thermometer that seems to made of paper plastic.. i plan to upgrade this asap. I don't know exactly what to look for thermometer wise but i would prefer a digital one. I would appreciate any suggestions thanks. He is exploring his tank right now and its pretty funny to watch. Sadly he has fell in the water dish twice already from being curious to his new tank.

This is a new hobby and i like what im seeing :) Always eager to learn more.
And here are some pics. Ill update more when i get better lighting in my room. Thanks for reading.

It looks awesome! +1 to the newbie! :gj: The only thing I suggest is getting a thermostat for the UTH, since they can get really hot and ball pythons tend to burrow and lay directly on the glass. Very pretty pastel and awesome looking set up, welcome to the forum :D

Indeed, thermostat is very important. Welcome to the family.

Everyone has very beautiful pythons in their avatar and collections. Seeing this is my first snake i would like to get more in the future. Ill get mine up soon :)

Where can i find a simple thermostat? My price range would be around $50 max. This is my first set up so nothing crazy. Thanks

    Hello, and :welcome: to BP.net.
In addition to the thermostat, my recommendation would be to reduce the thickness of yur substrate layer down to about 1 inch or so, really thick layers tend to trap the heat under them and it will build up along the glass, causing high temps.

I picked up my thermostat today at petco. Zilla thermostat. Not sure how good it will be but just for the meantime till i look into a better one.

I removed the hide and found what looked like a soaked spot under the hide. The hide itself was wet. Before i placed the probe on top of the UTH i felt the glass and it was really HOT! So i set my thermostat at 92. Is that correct?

My problem now is i cant close the lid complete because the probe wire is in the way. Do i have to make a cut out for the wire?

Let me know if im doing anything wrong. Thanks again for all the comments, help and suggestions.
