A new hatchling rack

Finally got around to building my new hatchling rack! Started yesterday evening...it only took around 3 hours to cut everything that needed cutting, gluing what needed gluing, and assembling everything. It is 7 levels and holds 21 6qt tubs. I plan on adding a few more levels to it. And what's awesome is that it is LIGHT!! I'm only 5'5" and around 115 and I can carry it no problem!! I had to carry it from the living room (where I made it), down the hallway, through the den, and down some stairs to the garage. Not a problem! So if you don't want a melamine rack that weighs a ton...this might be a good option for you!
Another thing is each shelf has a little built in stopper on the back, which was really perfect. I'll attach a picture and hopefully you can see it.
Overall, I am very happy with how it turned out! I love it!

Awesome job! What was the cost to make it if you don't mind me asking? And where did you buy the materials?

Looks great Now I just need to talk my wife into letting me build one :P

The total cost for everything EXCEPT the thermostat was about $110. The white rack is from Walmart. The brown board type stuff is from Home Depot. The sterlite tubs are from Target. And the heat tape (which I didn't realize wasn't on in the picture I posted) was from reptile basics.

I used a miter box that came with a saw. It was a long process...and I will not be using it again. Although I was cranking out those cuts pretty fast! Haha!!
Next time I'll be using a power tool though.

so,,, do you have the brown boards on the "inside bottom" and "inside top"???
thats nice i did one in melamine, and your right,, it weighs a shat ton...to get it from one room to another, my wife and i have to put it on a blanket and slide it across the hard wood floor....

It's a pain using a saw. I made a 41 qt tub rack with a bigger plastic rack like this and my cuts of the plastic poles were not straight. :D

Ahaha! Yeah, I have the miter box to thank for the straight cuts...if I hadn't had that...oh man! And I also have the 41 qt rack in this same style (the big black resin rack from Walmart). Also love that one!
Spooky, I know your exact situation with sliding the melamine racks on a blanket! Like you said, those things are heavy as shat! And the brown board is only on the bottom.

Yes. The top is solid.

Hey ... that's the shelf I had to get when walmart stopped having the other one in stock when I went to get a second level. I have the same set up but I don't use the boards and just use tub lids. It's not as convenient but it is cheaper, lol.

I personally hate using lids. So the $7 I spent on the board to make it so I didn't have to use lids was completely worth it to me.

I agree , but I didn't know where to get the board at the time. :)

Not sure what places are around you, but I've seen them at both Lowe's and Home Depot (those are the only places I've checked though).
