35 gallon hex tank--what would you do?
Last year we picked up this COOL tall 35 gallon tank thats a hexagon shape. It's a really nice size allowing for both height and plenty of floorspace. I am REALLY itching to put something in this baby. But what?
I have some cool ideas to make it a bit of a display cage. There could be a beautiful centerpiece of driftwood(I have the perfect piece, too!) that would allow for cool vines to be wrapped around and fake plants added to give a lot of good hiding places as well as be a gorgeous tank.
If you had a tank of this size, what would you stock in it? Right now I'm thinking frogs or geckos, but I'm open to suggestions. I can imagine a tokay gecko... Maybe white's tree frog.. Dart frogs could be a possibility? I dunno, so many options! :O
Give me some ideas! :P

Ohh..I've seen the tank you have, only a 15 though, and boy arethry pricey..lol. Putting a few small frogs inside sounds like a very good idea. Especially posion dart frogs. Put a few of those colorful babies in there and you have a perfect attention grabber for the living room!

Yeah, I actually got a great deal on this one on craigslist. The lady just wanted it gone, so I took it off her hands for 20 bucks. Fine price by me, it's a cool tank! :)

No one has any other ideas? I have to euthanize my betta tonight, I'd love some distractions. :(
I really like frogs and geckos, and I know there are more frogs and geckos than just the common ones, does anyone know of any of the weirder/rarer to the hobby interesting ones that might be fun for an enclosure like this? :)
Or are there any small arboreal snakes that would fit in this? Somehow I doubt it, other than maybe something like garter snakes, but if there is anything I might not have heard of, I'd love to have someone mention it. Even a really advanced or difficult animal, I don't have to fill this tank right away, I can wait til I have the experience to take on something a little more advanced. :)

Candoia carinata-carinata maybe? Asian vine snakes are cool too. As you said, tokay geckos would be sweet, same with the countless variety of arboreal frogs.
Being that its tall heating might be a pain in the butt, but ya just gotta get creative.

Id say Posion Dart Frogs, or something else of that nature that climbs the sides

I would wan to put something in there that is easy to clean lol, I liked the frog ideas and that would be a awesome project to make the set up for.

I have this obsession with giant day geckos so that's going to be my vote!

I have a similar tank (45gal tall corner) but it has fish in it for now. I was also thinking of converting it into a frog tank with living plants set up as a nice display.
I was looking at Red Eyed tree frogs, or Tiger legged tree frogs.

Good point on heating. If it needed a lot of warmth, I wouldn't mind doing something like using one side covered with heat tape or something. Could just decorate in front of it so it isn't ugly looking lol, but that is another reason to consider frogs that might not need as much heat other than being in a warm room.
Thanks for all the ideas! Nathan loves day geckos, I might tell him that's an option! :)

About poison dart frogs--Are they able to be housed together, like the different colored ones in a group? Or are they so genetically different that it's a bad idea. Just curious, never really messed with frogs other than my pacman :)

Crested geckos all the way!

Re: 35 gallon hex tank--what would you do?
My first choice would be carpet python, then 2nd would be super dwarf reticulated python.
Carpets come in all colors and different sizes (depending on locality). Carpets also make good display pets and hang out in trees & vines that you give them. Carpets also stay thin and manageable while reaching decent lengths

I would heat the whole bottom put a fogger in a water bowl(looks like a mini chrome hockey puck) at the bottom you will have to make a locking screen lid for it and put in a Green Tree Python! I will be doing this with a 55 gallon stood on end with lots of perches mounted to the walls and the screened in front will be rednecked to make air flow lower fourth will be open middle section covered with a single layer of a black trash bag and the top quarter left open making a good air current not sure how i would make a good air current in a hex tank maybe mount a lil 4 inch fan(computer fan if you have anyone with electrical knowledge wiring it into a plug-in) blowing down one wall and forcing air out the other wall... that set up would work for almost any arboreal critter, if you r not into GTPs, in my opinion

Re: 35 gallon hex tank--what would you do?
Definitely some sort of arboreal python. I'd go with a GTP.
