Thermostat for a DIY incubator
I am currently making an incubator out of an old wine fridge, what thermostat would you guys recommend for an incubator? I use Helix on my racks but not sure if they are the best choice for my incubator or if there's something else I should go with. Thanks in advance :)

herpstat nd temps can be adjusted by 1/10 of a degree, has high and low temp level alarms plus many other options. you won't use the night drop but the lower end herpstat doesn't have some of the options that I like with the incubator. worth the little extra money.

I use a helix on my incubator.... It works well. I have no complaints

YEah I agree, IMO if youre gonna invest in a high end thermostat, Herpstat all the way!! Their products are so fool proof, Im using a normal Herpstat proportional for my tank right now (which will be used for my hatchling rack eventually) and I have a Herpstat ND which will be used for my adult rack eventually.

It's expensive, but its cheaper than getting 4 individual herpstats or helixes. You get what you pay for, and the thermostat is, IMO, the most important thing you'll ever spend money on, even more so than the actual animals themselves.
The thermostat literally controls the life of your snake.
I get sick to my stomach whenever people come on the forums asking for a cheap thermostat. Cheap and thermostat are two words that shouldn't be used in same sentence, unless the sentence is: don't buy a cheap thermostat. They're just one area where you do not want to skimp on. I can't stress that enough.
And spyder robotics also has top notch customer service. I've had mine for several years now, and one of the probes threw a code, and I contacted them about it. The code it threw meant I had a bad probe, they sent me a new one, free of charge, even though I've had it for several years. No questions asked. that's customer service right there! :gj:

I use a 15 year old Helix system. Works great, however I use Herpstat for my racks and it would be nice to have the alarms on the incubator. I have a car battery that I hook up to a power inverter in case the electric ever goes out. I've only used it once for four hours and the temp never fluctuated. If I where to buy a thermostat now I would definitely go with the Herpstat 4, it has temperature and humidity sensors plus all the alarms and is the same price as if you where to buy their single thermostat and their single humistat separately.

Just on a total hijack, where did you get the inverter and is it Pure seine wave output? (what it takes to run both helix and herpstats) I have been searching for one that is cost effective but have not found one yet. Does yours have a transfer switch as well?
