    Best and cheapest hatchling rack?
I am looking for a hatchling rack for my hatchlings this year. Looking for something maybe in the range of 30 tubs but just let me know what you guys think. I do want belly heat and probably a 6qt tub maybe a 15qt would be fine to. Let me know what you guys think!

Personally, I would make my own. Check in the DIY section, there are plenty of threads on how to build that you can get ideas from.

There is no such thing as a cheap 30 tub rack. I would highly recommend building your own. It is incredibly easy; many stores such as Home Depot will even cut all your pieces for you.

Best hatchling tubs hands down are the vision v18 tubs. They hold babies and can keep the animal in that same tub till its like 500 grams. Vision racks in my oppinion are as good as it gets.

The nicest and cheapest hatchling racks are vision racks. Almost half the price of a freedom

We had way more eggs than expected this season(79 total) so I had to throw one together and it works really well for cheap.

35 6qt tubs, herpstat t-stat, 4 inch flexwatt and an old china hutch that I cut the top portion off and added shelves.
It works great, lids are a bit of a hassle but on the fly and for cheap :gj:

I like animal plastic racks http://www.animalplastics.com/ (currently in the process of switching all my homemade racks to them hatchlings and adults)

Homemade would be the cheapest if youre good at the DIY stuff and have access to all the materials needed...

Remember to be careful with belly heat on 6qt tubs. The tubs are very small and usually makes it hard to get a good tempature gradient from cold to hot...

DIY seems to be the consensus, but I like these:

Ok thanks guys but what do you think belly or back heat is better for hatchlings? I am worried back heat wouldnt work well. I have the room about 78 most of the year. Should I go belly or back? And if someone has a good DIY post a link please. Thanks guys!

it doesn't really matter back vs belly that small.

I wanted to inquire about this .... I can't find anything that is a good price that doesn't use heat rope. I'm a flexwatt type of girl. Jerry, I see myself doing something like that but with plastic.

I could hold 24 6qt tubs on my plastic, or 16 15qt and 8 6qt. Its two plastic shelving units stacked together with 3" flexwatt. Cost me $40 for the plastic parts, around $50 for the flexwatt, tape, wiring, and $50 for the on/off thermostat (1000w). The tubs of course cost an additional cost, but I could buy this over time as I built my collection. So for about $250, it's full. Comparably, I feel better about buying a premade rack now pricewise, if it came with tubs and heat, but FLEXWATT. So I'll have to search around now!

So if my ambient is 76-78 is back heat better or belly? Should I use 15qt or 6qt for ball python hatchlings?

If you room stays in those ranges back heat will work.

6 quarts tubs are best for hatchlings.

I ordered a 18 tub V-18 hatchling rack with 3in flexwatt belly heat from Animal Plastics. I have been very happy with how it holds temps & humidity. It also has a good heat gradient given the length of the tubs. I can't see myself using anything else after my experience with this rack. AP gave great customer service, quality and price. Not to mention that the V-18 rack was a custom order and not listed on their website.
