    Hey, all you night owls!
So, to all you members who are on here at all hours of the night I must inquire...

What reasons are you up at night?

Personally I work overnights for twelve hour shifts, so I end up with a decent amount of opportunity to browse the forums and learn all that I can.

Insomnia and stress. Given I usually go to bed at ungodly hours, I probably would benefit from graveyard shifts at a job.

I'm normally not up this late but just got home from a party lol. I prefer waking up early honestly. Won't be this coming morning for sure.

Sleep is for the weak! :P

In all honesty I only sleep about 6 hours a night because I just can't fall asleep until 2-3 in the morning, not sure why. I'm always tired between 5-8pm but that's not a good time to go to sleep so by the time 9-10pm arrives I'm over tired and it's hard to get to sleep for some reason.

Having a flexible work schedule where I can show up at 9-10am and not get into trouble doesn't help either. :P

Video games and books fill in the time space.

I'm on the opposite side of the world and it's day time lol. Besides that I'm usually up playing video games or working night shift.

I work late most nights, and I don't get a lot of sleep, thus I can't sleep much unless my body says HEY TIME FOR A NAP. Then I sleep. If I can. Sometimes its in class. Woops

Welp.. I'm 15 :D. That explains it, right?

On the serious side, I usually take small naps during the day out of random. Or I'm distracted doing something that's keeping me up (i.e. Ball-pythons.net, Netflix, Tv Shows). I usually like being up at night though, and then being able to sleep in. I am NOT a morning person!!

I work nights, hopefully not for much longer. I've been at it for around 2 years.

Only time I really get to be with my boyfriend or really be social. I have school most of the day, nathan has work most of the day. The rest of our breaks are filled with cooking meals, taking care of the animals, working out, doing homework, dealing with whatever crisis is happening(there is always something, isn't there?)and doing regular daily chores/cleaning and house maintenance. You know the feeling of a friday afternoon right after school ends? That's how I feel--by the time it reaches 11 at night. The day is finally over, I can relax.. Hear from friends before they head to bed, talk to my boyfriend, watch a tv show..relax... It's the only time when nothing is being demanded of us and we can just have a moment alone. I spend time with Nathan, check the forums, respond to emails, post homework online before class, and just chill out. Sometimes I end up staying up too late and I'm tired in the morning, but most of the time i'm pretty good about still giving myself enough time to rest and be prepared for the next day.

Even if I wasn't doing anything at night, all the stress from the day means I'd likely end up staying awake in bed just as long. Takes a while to unwind from a stressful day. I actually got so stressed out last year I had to consult with therapists and go through relaxation/meditation/self hypnosis/whatever you want to call it training in order to allow myself to allow myself to sleep. Was getting close to two weeks without sleep there! :O

I have no idea why I stay up so late. I have the will power to go to bed early but I don't so I'm up til 4 or later

I can understand the staying up late for work. Before my job here, I worked the night shift on my deployment over in Afghanistan. Other than that I would stay up playing games anyways, so I'm almost doomed to being a night owl.

Now if only I knew more local people that were up at night.

Good to know that there is a decent amount of us to keep the forums busy at night.

No rest for the wicked, right?

Lately, I'm not a night person, just wanted to be nosy and see why all of you stay up so late ;)
I USUALLY go to bed around 11-12 since I work in the morning, Thursday I was up late because I had to work for the World Series. Anytime I stay up late, it's usually just watching tv.

I slept 8! How do you function? I managed without coffee this morning because it is a day off from work, but 3 hours of sleep and I would like a zombie...and not a nice one.

Even though I work 6 am to 2:30 pm, I stay up till 11:30 at night most weeknights, and the alarm goes off at 4:45 a.m. This Saturday night I stayed up till my wife went to work Sunday morning at 7.

I watch movies, tv , and sometimes just get on the reptile forums or Facebook.

I find that I get tired around 8pm and then I get my second wind.

I actually feel most " alive " when it gets dark. I am awake and fully alert. I really just feel better at night.

I get up at 4:00am Mon-Fri. LOL I'm usually on in the mornings before work. My dogs don't believe in sleeping in on the weekends, so I'm usually in bed early.

I work at a diesel shop, so I really just sell parts. Nothing too exciting.

Anywho, on my nights off I spend most of the dark hours playing games. Right now Battefield 3 is the flavor of choice.

I am the night shift supervisor at a machine shop. I used to work 3:30 pm - 2:00 am but for now I am working 8:00 pm - 5:00 am. If all my operators are running Ok I get a lot of free time to be here.

I'm a night owl, but I'm trying not to be. Only because my 4 yr old has taken after me, and as I type this, is sitting next to me watching tv. She is usually up with me till 1 or 2 am even! And sometimes even later..... So I should be a good mom and set a good example to get her little butt to bed like a "normal" child.

I work from 5:00pm-1:30am. I normally don't go to sleep until about 6:00am. Usually, if you see me posting in the daytime, especially during the week, it is because I can't sleep due to insomnia or bad dreams from past combat tours.
I am a retired Marine, and currently work as a civilian aircraft mechanic on AV-8 Harrier attack jets... :salute:

I stay up late a lot of the time to catch up on readings/do assignments.
Not the funnest, but it gets things done.

I usually get up at 8, and never sleep in past 9 though, so I'm always tired.

I've been nocturnal for as long as I can remember. Even as a kid, it was a test to get me out of bed early.

Even when I have to be up by 5 for an early shift at work (which is MAYBE once a week, if that)...I'll still go to bed around midnight. And I'm a groggy, unhappy zombie.

My bipolar disorder gives me some wicked insomnia issues. I take meds at night that knock my butt right out. I've gone a couple of nights without taking them...yeah, my sleep absolutely sucks.

I'll sleep for about four or five straight hours, and then I'll be playing the wake-up game every hour or so until I finally decide to stay awake. So, on a day off, I won't be up until about noon or one in the afternoon.

My favorite schedule is going to bed at 4:00 am and getting up around 11:00. I have worked nights for 17 out of the last 20 years. Now they have me working till 5:00 am so I get to bed around 7:00 - 8:00 am.

Thanks, funny thing is I had no plans on owning any snakes until I was over there. I worked with a little bit of everyone out there, and ended up spending a lot of time with a fellow in the Navy. He ended up concinving me to stumble into to it.

Haha, and for the purposes of the thread, I spent most of nights up working shifts or watching the sky. So I must be a creature of the night.

Well time passes quickly when you focus on work!

Anywho, I'm interested. If you're comfortable sharing, I'd be interested in a PM about his tour. Perhaps he found some leopard geckos while out there like I did :)

Anywho back on track of the thread.

New reason to not sleep at night. Skyrim. If any of you play games, you probably already know this, but if you haven't tried Skyrim, at least rent it to give it a shot. So much to do, and between that and Battlefield 3, I'm stuck at my computer all night.
