Black Pewter or just Pewter?
-
It looks like a cinny pewter to me. The pattern doesn't look like a black pastel.
-
If it was sold as a Cinny Pewter, then more likely than not, it's a Cinny Pewter. Either way, why is that need to know info? Do you plan on breeding?

Yes i do. she was sold as "Pewter" but i cant point out if it's a cinny or black.
So i would really like to know for future breeding plans...

It's a cinny pewter, the pattern is wrong for a black pewter. Most of the time when people refer to pewters they mean cinny pewters not black pewters, those are usually labeled as such.

Breeding isn't as easy as it seems. And if you are going to be dealing with morphs, things can get tricky. I don't know how you bought a Pewter without knowing what kind of Pewter it is.
Just a little something to think about before you make you're next purchase. I've seen a lot people lately buy ball pythons for "breeding" purpose, without knowing what exactly they are buying.

Everyone has to start some where and with some morphs there are subtle differences that can make them hard to tell apart. In this case that is a great example of a cinny pewter, but if it was a poor quality cinny then it might be hard to tell from a black pastel.
I am guilty of buying a couple of animals with completely understanding them. I got my first spider before I knew about the spider wobble. I got my enchi because I wanted to make enchi bumble bees not really knowing what to look for in a good enchi.
I know you weren't trying to pick on them, but I'm just trying to help you see it from the other side. Proper care needs to be learned before purchasing an animal, but you can always learn more about the color mutation afterwards. At the start of the year I would have been hard pressed to tell a normal from a yellow belly, but now I feel confident that I know what to look for in the sublet morphs and can give an opinion. You have to start somewhere and this site is a huge help with that.

Can someone explain the pattern difference to me? I've looked at pictures of both and I see both that look like both, I can't tell the difference.
What would you say this pewter is?

The circled area is what I am referring to as an alien head.

Edit: As I've said before a poor quality cinny can look like a black pastel. The black pastels seem to have much busier/crazy patterns to me.

Im not disputing that, hell I can hardly still tell apart YB's from good looking normals. What I'm saying is, I wouldn't go and drop $200 on a YB unless I knew it's capapbilites and what not. A Pewter is pretty hard to pass as any other morph though, so I just feel they should have known what they were buying before dropping money like that.
Again I'm not targetting the TS, but it's many cases like this, where someones gets interested in BP's. Drops cash on a nice morph, without knowing exactly what they're doing, and then choose to rehome the snake cus they don't want to wait a few years for breeding, or don't wanna spend more money. AGAIN, I'm not saying TS is going to do this, but usually when you get into something you know before hand.

That's a good point. Deciding to get into breeding isn't the same as deciding to start painting or something because there is a life at stake. The animal needs to be considered in these cases.
Pewters are hard to pass off as a different morph. I personally prefer cinnies to black pastels, but to some it might not matter if a pewter is a cinny pewter or a black pewter in which case I think you can learn about it afterwards.

I wouldn't worry about offending anyone. We do all have to start somewhere. Like you I jumped the gun on my third snake purchase. I wanted a pastel female for my male spider and I ended up buying a Pastel Yellow Belly 50% het pied female with even seeing a picture. I got lucky and she is amazing but she certainly changed my plans. :P
You have a beautiful cinny pewter and there is a lot you can do with her. Good luck! :gj:

Please do nto taake offense to what I said. I wasn't born knowing. And I still have plenty to learn as well. Please ask as many questions as you need to, because you benefit yourself in doing so. The only dumb question is an unasked one. I'm sure if I go through my first posts, I probably asked some things I would consider dumb now.

Well..none taking and i also agree strongly on a dumb question is an unasked...At the time i replied, i had a lil to much going on,so it came out a lil sour:oops:Either way i shall do further & vigor research before purchase,i just couldn't point out what it was, thats all & needed others opinions to confirm, for mine & my pets concern. But above all means thankyou for your time & patience:gj::gj::gj:!

I dunno that I believe in the pattern difference, but it does look like dark colored cinny pewter to me. Black pewters are usually even darker. People get used to the striking silver-yellow pewter specimens that get shown off the most, but in fact most cinny pewters are a bit more on the brown side.
Here, check out my 2009 cinny pewter girl for comparison:

And she was actually originally one of the lighter babies from this quadruple-pewter clutch at Heather's Herps:
