Can i use this as a snake rack?
I have a ball python and 2 on their way so I want to start a rack of 3 nothing bigger I don’t plan on getting anymore any time soon (boyfriend said I just collect animals :) )
All 3 are still young, my male is 6 months and my new baby girls are 3 months

    Can I use this?

A lot of people will advise against it because of heating problems, escaping problems, and it's flimsy I believe. If you want advice on a small rack I have one that I made, I bought everything from walmart except the heat and thermostat :)

no, the construction isnt secure enough to use for snakes. there are large gaps between the tubs inside the shelf. take a tub out and look inside from behind and you will see what i mean.

honestly with only 3 snakes, tanks are still a viable option. and are better for viewing and displaying your snakes

I agree, I mean if you tried really really hard you might be able to "jerry rig" something up to make those work, but it will be a whole lot more trouble then its worth. Tanks and tubs are probably a better option and are both still easy. GL with whatever you choose!

I tried putting one of my snakes into one of these while I was cleaning her enclosure. Within 5 minutes of me putting her in there she had managed to get 3/4 of the way out. You probably could engineer a way to make these things secure but as said before heating is also an issue. Heating will be a harder issue to fix. In the end you probably will spend just as much time and money trying to jerry rig these as you could have building your own rack the way you really wanted.

I’ve been trying to find plans for the smaller racks its either super hard or I’m looking in the wrong place, I was thinking about using just like a bookcase from Wal-Mart
I’ve been watching every video, I’ve came across on YouTube so I might know how to build it
I want to use the 34qts, I’m just afraid they aren’t going to fit in a smaller bookcase

I have too many large tanks in my house; I would love to add 2 more 

check out the 28q / 41q rack thread in the diy section. they sell the shlelving unit at home depot for 50 bucks. the plans show 2 shelves but i did just one and the grand total was around 75 bucks. the 34qt are just taller than the sterlite 28qt correct? u can just cut the legs longer then. it should still work.

I made a rack that hold three 41 quart tubs or smaller i bought it at home depot awhile back for 10 bucks i saw one the other day for $15 look for sales, its one of those plastic racks people use for like there garages all you have to do is cut the legs down to fit snuggly ontop of the tubs but not so tight or you cant get the tubs out.Than i got three 41 quart tubs at sears for 8 bucks each. But it can also hold six 16 quart tubs, twelve 6.5 quart tubs and so on its just the matter on how you cut the legs

I just have one tub in use right now with heating pad from pet store that i already owned and hooked it up to a dimmer switch to "try" and keep the temp at like 93 but if you can afford flex watt and a thermostat get that instead because this dimmer switch thing stinks you always have to keep an eye on it i did just get flex watt and the ve-300 thermostat but it didn't come with the probe so i have to wait for it in the mail but there sending me a free one..Sorry if i hijacked your page about my heating issue just didnt want people to think what i have in the picture is staying like that lol

At walmart they have a metal "multi purpose" shelving unit for about $40 bucks I think. I bought that and bought 4-34 qt sterilight tubs with lids.

I got just flimsy plywood a Home Depot cut down to fit on each shelf.

Taped down flexwatt on each wood board with aluminum tape, wired it all together (I can try and explain the process if you need me to), and added a thermostat.

I think all together I spent maybe 100 bucks, not including the thermostat....

Here is is (with only 3 tubs at the time..)

Not much to look at but it was easy and cheap...and works really well.
