Convincing parents
It took me 16 years to convince my mom to allow me to get a snake. Since then I have become an expert at concincingz her for more:) and every time hey say this is the last one. that just never happens lol. Once again i have won he arguement and recieved the go ahead for another one. The reason i must have permission is because while im in college they stay with her:( but just wanted ro know how many of you are great at this talent wether being with parents or spouses . Lol

Funny... My wife said that my boys couldnt have one at all.. Now look at the size of my signature block. :) This hobby is an addiction for sure!!

I am in the same boat, I just graduated and I'm moving out next month. I couldn't convince them to let me have one so I got it and my sister is letting me keep it there lol.

"Lim-it"? What is this strange word you say? :P

Before I went into the military, I caught a Rough Green Snake and my mom told me that was all I could have. Then came alots of ball Pythons and several years later and lots of training I dabbled into Venomous stuff. Now out of the military and with my own place, the word "limit" isn't in my dictionary. And when my folks come over my mom likes looking at my Ball Pythons, especially my Ivory. They eventaully come around.
Persistance is the key!

I love that kids think they actually get something past their parents. Believe me, if she didn't want it you wouldn't have it. ;)

Im glad to see others in this talent haha. And JohnNJ I agree with you. They didnt like em at first now they always want me to get them to let her hold one. She talks to them, excited for feeding, and plays favorites. This is an addicting hobby. Gotta love it.

Why not find a friend and rent an apartment so you can keep your snakes? Thats what I did this year, trust me its not fun being away from them and its way to expensive to go home every weekend to feed them. Plus most apartments are cheaper than living on campus. Some things to think about.

It was waaayyy cheeper to get an apartment for me too.
At first my husband was not thrilled but let me get one snake. I now have three. I was just at an expo picking up rats and now he wants to get a KSB and a pair of Brazilian Rainbow boas. Its cute to see him get interested in my hobby but still pretends that he's not really into snakes. :D

The way I convinced my gf that reptiles are awesome was by telling her "i know you like the pretty ones, here let me show you pictures of a colorful species called 'panther chameleons'"
We attended one reptile show. She had to have a panther chameleon. Having him totally convinced her that it was a great idea to have a personal zoo.
Since then, she has said that the ONLY reptiles I need permission for (and likely won't get easily) are hots, snakes that might break 40lbs, big lizards, big turtles, etc.. the kind of stuff that requires extra steps in planning the caging/care/maintenance.
Not only that, but she now has a couple of pairs of snakes and geckos as well herself. It's kind of funny, because I know a bit more about what is "out there" that she can tell me the traits she likes in animals, and I can tell her "you know, I know exactly what you want. Its 'X'", and I'll be right.
For example, I knew she wanted ball pythons. She wasn't as interested in carpet pythons as I am, because they are too active. She basically said she wanted a snake that wasn't too fat, wasn't too skinny, wasn't very active (the exact words were something along the line of "actually, it'd be nice if it had the general personality of a rock, so it could just hang out while the TV was on"), was pretty with some yellow coloration or earth tones perhaps, and had some cool morphs to breed for. Bingo.
Right now we hover around keeping a dozen or so different species of animals. Except for a few individuals to add to current breeding projects, we're pretty much set for the next decade.
