This isn't going to help our cause...
This may or may not be in the correct location as it is not directly related to pet legislation...YET anyway. I'm sure a big push to take more of our rights will soon follow. This was terrible news to hear and I have somewhat mixed feelings about the whole situation.

That sucks, all the way around. For the guy losing his life by whatever means he did and for the animals being left to fend for themselves and having to be put down if they posed a threat to the public safety. Glad to read in the one article that the zoo personnel were on hand to tranquilize them and maybe get them placed in a properly maintained facility.

That's sad. I hope the zoo is able to rescue some of them before the cops kill them all. :tears:

They said he committed suicide and opened all the gates himself right before he did so. He was the one that released the animals. Really messed up. Did he want his animals to be killed? I'll definitely be following this as they retrieve some of the animals. I'd be very careful about letting children and pets out by themselves.

Niiiiiiiiiiiice. What a jack-wagon to have done that! Put everyone else and the animals he professed to love in danger like that. Sucks that he thought suicide was the only option but then to top it off with having done THAT by opening all the cages...hard to be sympathetic to his situation. I dunno...I don't know the whole story so I'll shut up but anyway...

I don't know the guy either but they are talking about him more and more on the news this morning. He sounds like a nutcase. Just got out of federal prison on illegal weapons charges too. It was a good thing what he was doing with the animals and all but at the same time, I don't think THAT GUY was the best person to be handling animals like that. Just my opinion, which really doesn't matter at all. All that matters is getting as many of those animals back into captivity safely as possible.

That whole situation sucks all the way around. Not casting judgment on him, as who knows what demons he was struggling with, either through his own doing or something out of his control, but the way the press will paint it...has everything they love: bleeds it leads (suicide), exotic animals, police involvement, a previously convicted criminal...I'm just wondering how they'll bring the Presidential debates and the drug wars in Mexico into the mix, lmao! Batten down the hatches and get ready, looks like. Hopefully Ohio won't go the way of some other states in a knee-jerk reaction to an isolated incident. HOPEFULLY...

Yep, it is already being turned into another opportunity to ban exotic animals...

I feel terrible for the animals too. The whole situation is just plain messy.

We just finished fighting off the last executive order that Strickland tried to pass on his way out of office after the bear attack incident. I have a bad feeling that this road is about to get real bumpy. :(

This sucks. Instead of each case being dealt with individually...We always seem to get lumped together. When one person does something stupid...We are all bad people and need to be punished.

    x2.

I'd say if someone hasn't already, now would be the optimal time to join USARK and have some representation on the national level, if not the local levels as well. Screwed up mess, to say the least.

Just another reason some animals were never meant to be kept and confined. I have been against people keeping big cats, bears, primates as pets. I just dont see why people want to cage an animal that has such a large home range and needs a bigger environment then cages will allow. With that being said im sure i will get dissagreed with. now if this was a sanctuary that rescues thise such animals then its up to the state to evaluate not only the site but the owner/ operator including mental status. If in fact he was a nutcase then someone dropped the ball allowing him to care for such animals. You always run a risk with any wild animal. Its the responsibillity of the owners and the states regulators of the laws that have to do with operating sanctuaries. I dont know how much effects this will have on reptiles but it should do something to ensure that animals are better protected and it doesnt happen again
