Uh oh?
Hey everyone
So I ordered an acu-rite thermometer/hydrometer with a submersible probe online on saturday, it should be here by tomorrow latest the day after. My problem is the lady who I'm pickin my BP up from needs him gone today. Good news for me, however, I don't have my temp gauge yet. I have some janky temp monitor in his tub for now and it's about 75, however I can't give an EXACT reading on the uth hot spot. Is this bad or will my bp be ok for a day or two? Im constantly monitoring the hot spot and its by no means anywhere near a burning to the skin temp and its not cold. The bp is 2 years old, 2 feet. Thoughts?
Thanks everyone

If you're not sure what the temps are, it's not worth it. How bad would you feel f you woke up in the morning and he was burned, or freezing? If you have to get him today, put him in a room or closet that you can use a portable heater and raise the temp in the entire room. I don't trust a UTH without a thermostat....

Re: Uh oh?
is 75 too cold for him? That's the temperature in my room. If not, I'll put him in a tub with just newspaper and a hide and water with no UTH and keep him in my room until I get the acu-rite. The lady really needs him gone and she (finally) responded to my emails.

Re: Uh oh?
( i mean obviously 75 is too cold however I meant too cold for around 12 hours)

You could always put him in your room, and buy those heat packs for hands for winter time and just stick one under the tub on the outside, get a few that way you can replace them as needed. I know they do get hot but going through the plastic I think they'll be okay. I used those when I lost power for 2 days from a hurricane...

Re: Uh oh?
oooh excellent idea! But put them on the outside of my tub, are you sure my snake will feel it through the plastic?
-
Yes, they do get very hot, google says some brands can get up to 130 degrees. I'd probably even put a light towel between it and the tub at the hottest point for a couple hours, it only peaks for a couple hours though.

Yes, the heat will transfer through the plastic just like a normal UTH will.

I'm sorry but are you not getting a thermostat? I'm not sure if I missed that somewhere in here.
You need a thermostat, you don't need the accurite, it's just convenient and something you can monitor with a temp gun.

I missed it too....the accurite is a thermometer...not a thermostat....

Re: Uh oh?
no i have a thermostat, but it doesnt read temps just has a dial that goes from cooler to hotter. HOWEVER...i finally got my first BP!!! WOO! i'm VERY excited however i'm also extremely nervous that I'm going to mess something up and he'll end up dead or worse. I have him in a plastic tub with a hide. He's about two feet long and his hide is one of the plant holders that when you water a plant the water doesnt go everywhere. He's currently exploring his new home and hasn't completely gone inside the hide yet, that's ok right? He seems like a pretty bold snake, very chill.

I see, no temperature gauge? This is odd, why not? What kind is it?
Exploring is a sign of stress until they settle in. Leave him be for a week.

Re: Uh oh?
yea I think watchin him explore was stressing me out :P so I left and walked my dogs I came back and now hes hiding in his hide so i feel a lot better

Sounds very small for two years old...
I like Leah's idea about the heat packs as long as you insulate them as someone said. Its just a day or so, so I wouldn't worry too much as long as you keep him at least somewhat warm he should be fine. Snakes go through a lot worse extremes during shipping without any ill effects. Now if we were talking an extended period, that is another story.
