    Herpstat Thermostat Max temp setting?
I have my Herpstat ND set to a day temp of 97 and an 8 degree night drop.

The probe on the thermometer says 87 and 77. The probe is laying against the back of the tub because the rack is a back heat design. Are my temps off? both snakes are eating fine. Should I turn the day temp up more or just leave it alone?

is the probe on the heat tape itself or inside the tub?

87 is ok during the day. I like mine between 88 and 92 though. 77 at night is a little low IMO I would keep the hot side at least 85. Ball pythons don't need a night drop at all so you could even turn the night drop off and leave it constant 24/7

The video shows 3" heat tape, When using back heat id suggest using 11" for better heating of the surrounding air.

Upgrading size of heat tape should help with not having to set the herpstat soo High. Ive used back heat and never needed higher that 92 to get my 89 inside.

Ya I have 11" heat tape on there. Its not made specifically for 15 qts this rack is the 15/34 combo rack they make I just didnt have any pics of the rack so I posted that vid to try and help.

Whats the room temps. Cause in 75f+ no need to have it set at 97 unless the probe is bad.

Do you have a Temp gun on hand to double check inside temps

I don't have a heat gun. Im not sure I know it will be 70 to 72 here in a month or 2 because that's what the heat gets set to for the winter

Might want to get a space heater set to keep room in the mid to high 70s. And your temps will get stable

ok. I was thinking about looking into it actually for the winter.

I would try to test both your flexwatt and Herpstat. Pull your snakes out of the rack and plug the flexwatt straight into the wall. 11" flexwatt will max out around 110 f in open air. If it sits there for more than an hour and doesn't seem to get that hot then you might need to replace the heat tape. For the herpstat put the probe on something that you know its temperature. make sure the probe is within 5 degrees if not closer. If the herpstat seems to be the problem try getting a new probe first, it costs so much less and if you find that it is the herpstat unit itself then you much be able to get it switched out.

i put the probe from the accurite onto the flexwatt it read 102f now its on just the shelf reads 80 and 73 and the herpstat is reading 98.8.

Is it the room is just that cold? If so Ill probably look for a space heater today.

Can i plug the space heater into my herpstat to regulate the temp?

No the space heater has too much power for a herpstat to handle.

Sounds like the heat tape might have faulty wiring. But hard to know without a temp gun.
