I need a new hobby any suggestions?
So I've been told several times by friends that I talk about snakes too much. I really need some new hobbies, anyone got any suggestions? I'm trying to get back into video games, but I think I need something else on top of that. I'm open to all suggestions, but my funds are usually a little limited due to my ball python addiction. :P

    Sketching maybe!
Although that can be irrirating if you're a perfectionist. LOL.
    You could make jewelry.
Or find old crappy looking furniture and sand it and stain it so that it looks new!

I would love to start breeding my own snake food, but I live in an apartment and I don't think I could keep the smell down well enough. :P

Customizing My Little Ponies. It's actually kind of fun, if you're a crafty sort, and its another way to get your friends to ask you to go back to talking about snakes :P (Seriously, just learn enough to talk about re-hairing a Gen2 or Gen4 head, they'll ask how your snakes are doing XD)

i really like shooting, it can be expensive to get into, but once you have the guns, certain ammo can be very cheap, go pick up a ruger 10/22 (about $200+-) and you'll see how fun it is. i also read, and would like to get into wood carving, also expensive to get into tool wise, but a super cheap hobby to maintain

I raise orchids and love it. It took me awhile to find the kinds that agree with me but I love raising them up. Plus when I need to dived them up I can sell the divisions at flower and orchid show. Species can sell for a pretty penny.

Other than that I, collect comic books and do water color and oil painting.

    Luck:)

Photography? Buy a used SLR and you will stay busy for a good long time just learning how to use the thing. I suck at it but it is usually a fun challenge to try and get the right shot.

I'm actually thinking of buying a nice DSLR next year. I have an SLR and I took a photography class in college so I know how to use it, but the cost of film and getting it developed is insane. >__<

find a closet you could empty and start a dark room, im not sure how much that would cost but it might be cheaper than always taking them somewhere, and it'll keep you even busyer, if your looking for time consumption

I only know how to develop black and white and the cost of setting up a dark room is really expensive. A DSLR would be much cheaper and more useful. :P

now that im reading this, i realized i forgot about all the stuff included, i was thinking of just the chemicals and tubs, not the sizing/focusing(whatever you call them) machines and everything else.
if you like to draw and are good at it, pick up a tattoo gun and practice on oranges and bannanna's, it'd be fun and can bring some extra cash every now and then

Lol, I'm not really good at drawing. I think in WI you need a license for that anyways. All I can think of now is the episode of Family Guy where Peter buys a boat and gets a loan from a shaddy bank that doubles as a tattoo shop. :P

This reminds me of some random Craigslist girl that tried to trade me tattoo work for a few months worth of rats not too long ago. I wonder if she practiced on oranges first?

to kinra: lol, that episode was great
to spitzu: well, that is how alot of proffesionals start, when it comes to tattoos, orage skin has the most realistic properties compared with humans, and besides, its better to screw an orange than some big biker dude that'll bash your face in with a crowbar when you mess up lol

Many hobbies are something that other people find dull, unless it is a group hobby. For instance, my two great loves are snakes and video games, and my husband finds them both dull. So I talk to other snake people about snakes, and I play WoW so that I can interact with other players.

My husband and I volunteered at a no-kill cat shelter for a while back in Utah. That is a very rewarding hobby to have.

Walking/hiking is also pretty satisfying. Getting out into nature can be very soothing and good for you. You might even see some snakes!

On that note, you could always check out field herping. ;)

    www.sporcle.com <----- that'll keep you busy for a few months. :D

Aside from Sporcling/gaming (Sims & Big Fish) and snake-ing, I'll list some of my other hobbies for your consideration... not all are "low-budget," but most can be made "affordable" enough.

    - Photography
    - Road tripping (just go anywhere!)
    - Writing
    - Playing music on violin/viola, piano & guitar
    - Watching classic movies, both at home & a local classics theater
    - Hiking/walking (with my dog)
    - Yoga
    - Swimming & hot-tubbing

Oh, I've always wanted to learn how to fly! Told myself I'd take flying lessons after finishing graduate school, but it's still too darned expensive. :(

Model car-building is fun too... I used to be really into that as a kid, which some people thought was unusual for a girl. Judging by my grown-up hobbies of collecting snakes & tattoos, I've clearly never been the feminine type. :P

:O Don't get into bettas. That's a hobby that gets as obsessive as snakes, and can end up costing just as much! :O If you want show quality fish that is! I keep seeing insane things selling for hundreds. Amazing for something that lives 2-5 years!

My betta was 50 dollars when shipping was added up, I couldn't help it. I had been surfing aquabid so long, and he was so pretty! :)

I don't know, between herps and games, I don't have much time for anything else, but then again I work a lot of hours.

You could wait until December and pick up The Old Republic, The Star Wars MMO coming out by Bioware. There are eight classes, and each one is supposed to have over 200 hours of story, let alone the gameplay of a normal MMO.

My second passion is astronomy. Nothing like going out on a crystal clear night and looking into the past. I spent about $400 on my telescope used and I can see most deep sky objects, like the Andromeda Galaxy and a list too long of the Messier objects.

How about picking up an instrument? Drums offer a great workout. I've gained a lot of muscle in my arms and calves from playing drums. Being that you live in an apartment an acoustic kit probably wouldn't work out very well, but electronic kits can usually be picked up fairly cheap on CL these days.

It's a 10" dobsonian. Dobsonians are IMO the best bang for your buck. They are much cheaper than refractor telescopes and have very similar optics. My specific telescope is a Hardin 10" dobsonian, brand new (even though Hardin doesn't exist anymore) it would go for about $600-800 for 10". The wider the view, the more expensive.

This, is my main goal one day ;)

Don't get me wrong, if I could afford an awesome refractor telescopeI would, but those are the ones that cost thousands. Most are motorized and move with the sky, most have go-to finder, which is pretty much a little computer, you plug in what you want to see and it moves on it's own. I like my non-motor though, part of the fun is star hopping and finding things on your own :D

Edit: Oh as far as the magnification, it depends on which eye piece I use. I have quite a few, the better ones obviously being more expensive. I can see pretty frickin' far though, lets just say that ;)

that thing is absolutly insane, i think i would want a manual one too though, it sounds funner to move it myself than push a button. the one in the link looks definitly worth it, to be able to see saturn like that from here?:taz: can you imagine the moon through that!? you could probably count the craters lol
