Future Breeding projects = P
I havent begun yet, but I thought Id share my plans with you guys and see what you thought = P Keep in mind that this timeline is assuming I get all of these snakes with time to get them to the proper age and weight, and knowing luck and what not I may not get all the morphs and genders I want, but hey these are plans right? Its not going to go just the way I think it will. Do you guys have any ideas for any other pairings I may want to do? Im all about making these plans WAY in advance so im well prepared for when I can make them happen.
First Season-My female Normal will be 18 months and hopefully 1500G XD Male BB will be 7 Months and I think he'll be a fine weight by then. If I get him between Dec. and Feb. he should be old enough.
------------
Normal X BumbleBee
Second Season-If I get my Female pastel at the same time as my bumblebee she should be ready and up to weight by the following season. I would also be purchasing a male and female fire, and start gearing them up for the following season. Also with any luck I will get male and female Killer Bees from the pastel clutch
---------------
Normal X BumbleBee
Pastel X BumbleBee
Third Season-Trusting everyone is at a good weight and age by this point I would hope and pray for male and female Black eyed Luecistics.
-------------
Normal X BumbleBee
Pastel X BumbleBee
KillerBee X KillerBee
Fire X Fire
Fourth Season-Trusting everyone is the correct age, and weight this is how I would pair them. If I got a nice female Killerbee I might try to breed it to the fire male and see what I got, but those are my plans for the next few years.
--------------
Normal X BumbleBee
Pastel X BumbleBee
KillerBee X KillerBee
Fire X Fire
Black Eyed Lucy X Black Eyed Lucy

Re: Future Breeding projects = P
Not trying to belittle what you are doing at all but just sharing my experience. I have quit making "plans" as they will change so many times before the next season. You will always have the problem feeders or not get what you need or you will find an amazing deal somewhere that you just have to buy and then will add it in to your plans.
All I can say is when your starting out, keep all the females you can.. It will help in the long run.
Best of luck in your future breeding endeavors.

Re: Future Breeding projects = P
Dually noted. Yeah I know what you mean, but Im a very organized person and dont really mind altering the plans ive made as new factors come into play. and trust me I dont plan on parting with any of the snakes im going to use as breeders. Theyre pets first breeders second. While I do intend to sell the majority of the hatchlings, theyre pets until I get rid of them as well. It wouldnt be so much a business venture as a hobby. Anyway, while I do have plans they are very flexible XDD

Should throw that Killerbee in with that BEL :)

Re: Future Breeding projects = P
Well Im not so positive. About that one. My fiance and I entered this game with the intention of breeding both killer bee's and Blue eyed leucistics. We then discovered black eyed luecistics which we like a LOT more. So Killer bees and BEL are absolutely not changing. The pastel and bumblebee are necessary to get the killerbees, so those arent changing either. and the fires get me the BELs. So Theres really isnt much room to wiggle. But theres A LOT of room for new projects. So whatever I do from this point on is going to be what changes.

Re: Future Breeding projects = P
Your plans sound good. I would recommend getting your male a little bit sooner. Some may disagree, but it seems like I'm always waiting for my males to get the hang of things. I have a year and 1/2 old Pastel het pied that is still afraid of the girls. LOL. Some of my boys have bred sooner, but I usually don't get much out of them until they are 800+ grams.

You betcha, breed a killer bee with a black eyed leucy and every hatchling will be a firefly at least, the ones that pickup the spider gene too will be your fire bees! A very groovy pairing to say the least!

Re: Future Breeding projects = P
Koloo- Well Id rally like to get him sooner, but I dont think Ill be able to. It just so happens to line up that im moving out in January and cant get any snakes until then. Do you think it would be better to skip the first season and just wait until The second season to breed anything at all?(I would still plan on pairing the normal X Bumblee and pastel X bumblebee I would just be waiting an extra year.)

It does not hurt to try, but just don't count on him to lock his first year. All snakes are different and you might get lucky;)

Re: Future Breeding projects = P
Haha. Well cooling down temps a little during the winter might always give him a jump too. I also heard that introducing the female as the season is starting to pick up without actually giving them time to REALLY get to know each other could boost the desire to breed, Though when it comes down to it wheren theyre ready theyre ready, when theyre not theyre not.
My little girl might not even be up to weight by then anyway XD. But it is a goal. Something t strive for and hopefully it works out.

Just keep in mind that the females take at least two years if not more to get to size. So when you produce your killers or BELS that those females won't go the following season. Also keep in mind the whole odds thing. You want to produce a 1.1 or 1.2 ect pair of killers or BELs but that dosnt always happen. We all know how the odds game goes and sometimes you get nothing you were hoping for. But you have the enthusiasm. Good luck.

Re: Future Breeding projects = P
Thank you! Yeah I am aware that Females take their sweet old time getting to a breedable point, but Im in no rush. They'll get there when they get there. As far as odds go, I probably wont get all of the morphs and genders that I want, but I really really hope I do :D Besides, Im fine with waiting for another clutch if I have to. These are long term projects after all. Even if the selling price of these snakes goes down over the next few years thats fine too. Im breeding the killer bees and the BEL's because -I- LOVE THEM. The fireflies and firebees are just an added bonus. an if I can I will type thing. But beleive me I would never push a snake to breed before its ready to do so.

Re: Future Breeding projects = P
Hey sorry to ask such a dumb question(Im not really all that good with genetics)
What would the Odds be for the KillerBee X Super Fire BEL be? I searched all over the internet and found not answer, and also tries several morph wizards. All of them had either killerbee's OR Super Fire BEL's. But not both of them = (

Each egg would have a 50/50 chance of picking up the spider gene, so on average half of them would be fire bees from that pairing, the other half would be straight fireflies. Cool thing about that pairing is that even if the odds gods cheat you out of the spider gene you still get a clutch of fireflies since both parents are homozygous.

Wow. I had actually thought it would be 50/50
but convinced myself that couldnt be right XDD Im really excited to do this. Both fireflies and firebees are beautiful morphs!

Re: Future Breeding projects = P
i bred my pied to a 100% het pied,,,, and got nothing. i had a 98.6% chance of getting atleast 1 pied,, and i lost with a 1.4(or so) %%%..
and chances are that by the time you get there,, prices would have fallen. BUT as long as you stick to your guns, and follow your plans, YOU will be satisfied.. and isnt that what its all about anyway???
heres a little thing that i have learned though,,, always have a plan B. if the plan A falls through,, youll have plan B to keep you going!
good luck!
spooky

Re: Future Breeding projects = P
Wow.. You sure you didnt get duped? That sounds insane.. Hopefully the both of us have better odds later on down the line.

In a pairing of pied to het pied, each egg has a 50% chance of being a visual pied.

Females don't all grow like you want. I have a 3.5 year old banded ( dinker I'm hoping is genetic) at 1100 grams. Still not ready this season.

Re: Future Breeding projects = P
Just to echo what some of the other guys are saying, your plans will change many, many times. But I'm like you, that doesn't stop me from writing and re-writing plans :D And I haven't even had my first bp breeding season yet :P Good luck with whatever your plans end up being!

Re: Future Breeding projects = P
Hahaha. Well the fact that im going to attempt to breed in order to get my future breeders means theres mad potential for my plans to go haywire. The pairings themselves are pretty solid. Its just a matter of when Ill have the appropriate snakes and when they'll be at a good size for breeding XD
