13 month old breeder maybe
Hi I have a 13 month old ball that has hit 2kg Im wondering how many people have had good luck breeding such a young snake or should i wait it out one year more for her to grow internally so ta speak.NO i didnt power feed her some snakes grow better than others..

Females aren't sexually mature at 13 months.
-
That's a big female at 13 months! Some may go their second winter but most will go in their third winter! You can try! If she isn't ready, she won't go!
-
Some people do it...I never would. Third winter or more, no matter what size they are. All you're gonna do by rushing is screw up her health, possibly ruin her for future breedings for a couple years, have a small clutch, possibly infertile clutch, small eggs, small babies...Not worth it at all.

Re: 13 month old breeder maybe
To me breeding is more than a weight factor it's also an age factor.
While I would breed a 3 or 4 years female around 1200 grams I would not breed a 13 months old female even if over 1500 grams.
I don't breed any female under 18 months of age.
-
I can't help but believe that your female is fat, I feed more than most and I have never got a female to 2000 grams in that time frame, not that I can't but I won't.
13 months old? seriously?

Re: 13 month old breeder maybe
That sounds unbelievable. I have a 13 month old female that has never missed a meal, fed every week, and is a rat eater and she is only 711 g. I also have 3 year old females that arent even 2000 g yet. sounds like one fat snake to me. good luck

I believe the weight to age.
My mojave lady is already at 1300grams and a little over 12 months and eats a med rat with ease. She's not fat at all. She's long at 3.5 feet already but idk . Some do just grow likes weeds.

Re: 13 month old breeder maybe
Jesus.. My nine month is only at 174G. Granted she is underweight for how old she is because we had some feeding trouble early on. But still. Thats a big girl.
Also, I was under the impression that Age didnt matter after a year. That weight was the factor you really needed to look at by that point. Should I stand corrected? or is that one of those topics that its simply a matter of choice?

I've never heard anyone recommend breeding a year-old female, no matter how big she is. Usually people say 2-3 years minimum, and preferably over 1500g before any attempts. Plus, the girl just won't go if she's not ready... I tried breeding my (then) 2+ year-old het albino last season, since she was well over 1500g, but it was a no go. Now she's 3+ years & over 2000g, and hopefully ready to mate! :)

Re: 13 month old breeder maybe
Good to know! Im Planning on getting Pastel Female at some point, as well as a BumbleBee Male. I more than likely wont attempt breeding until all three are of an appropriate age then, so I guess Ive got a couple more years to go before I try my hand at breeding XD

Re: 13 month old breeder maybe
Thanks for the repliys I wont breed her this year but I had to ask.So many people say one they hit 1500 grams breed it.And no sorry shes not fat she just grew at a crazy rapid rate I dont feed her more than anyone else..
-
id try it... ive got people in my area that will power feed their females and breed 1500g females at just over a year age... like others said if she takes she takes... worth trying she more than has the size... !

Not always true.
It has been done. If the girl is truely as big as the OP states, then go for it. She will tell you much better then we can if she is ready.
Do you have a picture of her?
-
a 1300g 12 month snake is believable. Not a 13 month 2000g snake. sOrry, but to me it sounds bogus.
-
if she has grown that fast, and is healthy and not overfed as u say, then throw her in with a male and see what happens. if she's ready she should be interseted and they should lock up. I would really like to see a picture tho.

i would not say bogus, i have seen it before, like others have said, throw her in with a male, she will let you know, remember some breeders have successfully bred a male at 4 months old, if they are ready they will go.

Can I ask a silly question? Are you sure she isn't older than 13 months?
Did you actually hatch her, or get her as a hatchling? Or did you get her when she was larger and someone said "Oh, she's about a year." and you just assumed they were right?
Maybe she's a bit older than 13 months.

I bred my pastel female her 2nd winter. She was around 1300g (15 months old) in November when I started pairing. That year she gave me 6 good eggs, the following year 7 eggs, and this past year 8 eggs. Just saying...
But 2000g at 13 months doesn't sound healthy or normal at all. My biggest/fastest was the mentioned pastel female. Every other snake I've had is usually in the 500-800g range at a year's age.

Re: 13 month old breeder maybe
I have tried breeding 6 females I can think of off top of my head at 18 months and 1500 plus grams. 4 of them laid eggs. The clutches just keep getting bigger every year smallest clutch was 4 eggs the rest all laid atleast six. The clutches keep geeting bigger every year with them laying 8 in there 3 clutch.

Re: 13 month old breeder maybe
Sorry everyone I had mixed her up with an other female she was born on june 20 2010 so she is 16 months old my bad.My phone is getin fixxed rite now but ill try and get a pic in not to long.Still empresive wieght for a snake under a year and a half.I bought her when she was less then a 100 grams and I feel the breeder has no reason to give me false info on her.The other 3 snakes I bought at the same time and from the same breeder are all the same age and the biggest is 780 grams witch I agree is more what you would expect it to be.They all eat on the same days but this one has only missed 3 meals. Thanks for Useful replies...Curant wieght 2038grams

If she is 16 months, I would go ahead and try in a month or two.
