Help plz snakes might be sick!
I had 3 of my snakes die within 4 day they all had runny poop and died within 24hrs of them starting the runny poop they pooped multiple times that day and then I found them dead I've asked my friends who are also breeders and no one knows what it is I've asked 3 different vets and none have a clue what could it be?? I don't want to loose anything else the only thing that has changed is we moved into a new apartment after the first one died so I don't know what to do

Did you take a stool sample from the others to a vet?
Did you recently bring any new animals into the home?

im really sorry youve lost 3 of your buddys, and i have no idea what it could be, but if i were you i would put every snake in quarentine immediatly, and take them to the vet asap, dont just ask them about it, bring your snake to them, i wish i could help more, sorry and good luck to you and your friends

Damn, that's terrible. I'd have to assume kind of internal pathogen but the only thing you can do to find out for sure is go to a knowldgeable reptile vet and get necropsies done on the dead ones and fecal tests done on the live ones. Good luck, hope it works out and you don't lose any more. Sounds really bad.

+1, also, what about a necropsy? The vets and especially us will not be able to diagnose anything if you're only explaining it. Strictly quarantine any other animals you have in your house...

I'm planing on takein any stool samples to a vet ASAP I've put all animals into quarantine and disinfected everything I've had 2 out of 3 vets examine the dead and 15/58 live ones and they said it could have been something with the rats that where fed to them but i don't think so ive been getting rats from the same guy for over a year and never lost any other snake but I have to wait for stool from the live ones

Well so far none of the test have came back for anything this might be a stupid question and I should have asked it earlier would high chlorinated water effect them? The apartment I'm in nows water is highly chlorinated and would any kind of external perisite carry anything that would harm them I did find like 2-3 mites on the albino but that is the only one that seemed to have them

Well to update a little more all test came back negative on the live ones the vets believe the stress of the move might have been to much on the two and the other one that have no clue what happened to him

    :confused::confused:

I've never heard of stress killing a healthy snake, nevermind multiple snakes...could be wrong though.

    sorry for your loss dude

but you havent said what temps etc...the snakes were kept under housing etc...

and if the rats were dodgy they surely your other snakes would be ill to???

    same applies to the water.....

    really confused on this

Chlorine wouldn't be the problem because it evaporates out of the water within about 20 minutes after it is in the bowl.

The stress of the move wouldn't have caused them to just die like that. Something must have happened. Snakes don't die all of a sudden unless something very traumatic happens like extreme hot or cold. If they were harboring something and just didn't show any signs of sickness, then I would be worried about the others. Did they act strange at all? Any star-gazing, yawning, twisting, or anything else out of the ordinary before they died?

what about the necropsy???? this might be needed.. a vet looks at clinical signs, and any "gross" evaluations. they might also do a fecal flotation on sight, i dont know.. but a pathologist looks at the insides, takes samples of every organ and then puts samples under the microscope.. keep in mind that alot of vets arent trained in reptiles, mainly dogs, cats, and some large animals.
i know this because i work in a vet pathology lab.

My temps are spot on never have a single problem with temps the only thing that was odd was the fiecies and multiple times that they used the bathroom the vet that I took them to is a reptile vet in Fayetteville Nc the only other thing I can think of is the temps changed during the move they where in 75-80 degrees during the move but possibly had a dramatic drop I temps while traveling but I don't know the vet did 4 different test and did a necroscopy on the albino and found nothing internal so i dont know what else to do besides wait and see if another gets sick and if it does rush him to the vet and show them

at this point, it is all speculation, but how long after "the move" did they die? also, how were they moved? in your car, in the back of a moving truck, in the back of a pick up truck?
im not trying to diagnose things at this point, because if you seen a herp vet, and a necropsy has been done, there should have been some answers by now... its all guesses,,, but maby if in a moving truck or something like that they were exposed to C02?????
    please keep us posted

They died 24-48 hrs after the but bride just have a light bulb go off what about over exposure to bleach? We use a bleach solution to sanitize tubs and racks and the last time they where cleaned was 2 days befor the move and I didn't get to be there for the cleaning so my wife and brother cleaned them could that be it?

it could be based on a cleaner but i would think you would see it on all tubs that were cleaned that way and if you have done this before i find it unlikely that you would have it happen. Are they in different setups then the 8 that are fine? or do they share rack space with them?

I have all racks in the same room but there is 5 different racks and all 3 where in 3 different racks

Also were all tubs/enclosures treated this way or just those with the snakes who have died treated?
