Depends on the snake. We remove most of the hides, but some of them get scared and won't eat without them.

Re: Remove hide?
I remove the hides for my live feeders in order to avoid the rat/mouse running into the hide. I leave the hides in for my f/t feeders though.
I guess it is just what works best for your situation.

I don't bother myself, mine all take F/T and the brave ones don't take the rats in and the timid two would not eat with out them.

If your feeding F/T you could always lure him out with it, thats what i usually do to get a better view.

I remove the hide because I usually wash the hides while the crew is eating, and it makes it easier for me to check and be sure that nobody has saved a little something for later that is going to rot and stink.

Go for it.
Or you can feed in a cardboard box. Which will avoid future cage aggression, AND you get a good view.

I always leave hides as some BP's like to ambush their prey from the hide. Also I feel its best to disturb a ball python as least as possible when feeding. Great feeders won't care but nervous nannies might refuse.

Our pastel is one of those "nervous nannies". He used to be really bad and would only eat a smaller than ideal p/k rat left in his hide with him with the lights turned off. We are slowly building his confidence up and he will eat appropriate sized meals now with the lights on. Its pretty entertaining watching him dart out of his hide or from under a piece of newspaper.

Give it a shot and see if she eats. I'm lucky and mine is super brave, I feel like I feel like I could swing her around by the tail, drop her back into the tank and she will take out any rat I hold in front of her.

I will try to remove the hide. The last mouse went right into the hide and he killed him and ate him in there.

I feed f/t, but I still remove their cool side hide and water dish during feeding so that I can clean them while they eat. I will usually put it all back a few hours later once thy have retreated to their other hide to nap off the snacks!! :)
