Vermiculite
Hey everyone im just getting my stuff in order before I i put my animals together. I have most everything i need to make an incubator and i have its bins but, where can i find vermiculite? is it at the local pet stores (because i havnt been able to) or is there a good site ican get it off of? Im a litle set on using vermiculite because ive heard good thing and used it at a past job to incubate chameleon eggs but it came from am employees home pile. Dont work there anymore so where do you all order it from..?

Plant stores might have it.

This is a good question, I was wondering the same thing myself.

Re: Vermiculite
I picked mine up from these folks since I couldn't find it locally. I'll have enough to last me the next decade, these bags are HUGE.

Check your local feed store and nursery they will either have it or can order it for you, I pay about $20 for 4 cubic feet.
Home Depot and Lowes sometimes have it too.

Is there any particular brand or type we should be looking for? I'm very nervous to switch over from Hatch-rite.

All you need to worry about is the grade and the fact that it is pure (nothing added to it)
The one I used is very fine which I would not use with traditional incubation methods (having the eggs directly in contact with the substrate) however with substrateless method it works fine.

So Deborah you use fine grain and like a plastice screen to keep the eggs off the vermiculite? Ive seen fine in alot of videos n the eggs r jsut on it, but ive only used the chunky stuff.

Correct and it's really fool proof, no worry about the eggs getting too wet or drying out, I would never use any other method.
Worry free method for me.
