First BP EVER! Picked up today from ETHS Expo!

Went to the ETHS expo (East Texas Herp Society) expo today in Houston.

Picked up my first Ball Python! I introduced myself a few weeks back and that I was waiting for an expo to come around to pick up a BP.

Went there today without a particular morph in mind...just wanted something to call out to me. There were quite a number of breeders there with all sorts of morphs. I'd love some day to get a Pied (they are gorgeous)

But...without further ado... I introduce you to my first!

A big thanks to the breeders who were willing to go down on price! (Makes it nice knowing I can still pay rent AND own my first BP!) Needless to say, I barely broke a Ben :-)

Thanks! (and to everyone else) I'm excited about her! Out of the several hundred BP's I saw there this was the one (albeit also in my price range) that really called out to me. Very catching to the eye! (and bred with any number of males of other patterns she can turn out some great clutches!)

Regardless. She was the winner to me!

I was there a few minutes after 11. Stayed until 12:30 or so. Made sure I got the walk around.

Got her from ball python invesments. Mr. and Mrs. McAlexander were a real pleasure to talk to and they were nice enough to shave a few bucks off the top! I really liked their selection of snakes. Active, healthy, and they have some GORGEOUS morphs!

Like I said, this particular pastel was with a Pastel Spider in the same display box. She was under the spider but she caught my eye more than the spider did. Once I found out she was in my $ range and I handled her for a couple of minutes...she was the one!

Looks good. I like the pattern. I was pretty disappointed to move to Lubbock bc I knew I'd have to miss the reptile expo's in Houston for the next few years. Great pick up!

Ken's a great guy. I got a male Cinnamon from him a while back that so far has produced some outstanding offspring.

Congrats! I was there this morning too! This was my second year going to the ETHS show and I've been really impressed both times by the quality and selection of animals. My husband has been wanting a tortoise and after doing a lot of research decided he could handle the sulcata! So, we picked up our new sulcata baby at the show. Yay for new additions!

So..I know I'm looking years ahead here but I remember the breeder telling me that Pastels breed very well to make some of the more designer morphs.

Pastel x Spider = Bumblebee
Pastel x Cinnamon = Pewter
Pastel x Pastel = Super Pastel

What are some of the other combinations?

pastel x fire = firefly
pastel x pinstripe = lemon blast
also pastel x lesser/butter is one of my favourites

there are plenty more. pastels and yellowbellies have excellent influences on almost every morph. best of luck in the future.

neglected to add that a pastel x yellowbelly is a criminally underrated combo morph. given how affordable each base morph is and how great they look, I'd look at picking up a male yellowbelly for the future if it suits your aesthetics.

Crack? as in Crack cocaine? as in an addictive drug? hahahaha.

What I will probably do for breeding in the future is find someone local with a male and let him "spread her legs" and then split the clutch or something.
