Possible hets success rate?

How successful have you been with breeding your recessives to possible hets?

I've had a 66% success rate. :rofl:

your taking a gamble with a possible het - honestly speaking your taking a gamble with a marketed 100% het as people like to cheat and lie when selling.. There are people who have had success and than there are people who have been shafted by the experience. The Only hets I would play with are those that are A) made by myself, or B) Made by a reputable breeder that I have had personal interactions with.

agreed with decensored i would be super skeptical on hets for simple fact like said above ya never kno! i have a friend that wanted to sell me a het pied male for 100 bucks no documentation but showed possible tail markers... i was like id almost rather spend another 500 and buy a low white pied and be garenteed its pied lol...

I agree too... spending the money and TIME on trying to prove out a "poss het" isn't worth it IMO. Especially if you're talking about a baby female, that means 2-3 years of raising it, then a year or two of breeding - so possibly 5+ years to prove (or disprove) it's a het? Better off spending the money on a 100% het, from a reputable breeder as stated above. Although, if a poss het is the same price or minimally higher than a normal, I guess you have nothing to lose in trying.

P.S. I have a pair of 100% het Albinos, purchased from Justin Kobylka... we all know he's reliable, so I felt completely confident in buying them from him. Looking forward to breeding them this coming season! :)

Check out Ralph Davis's breeding records. He used some possible hets to try and prove them out, especially in the earlier ones, so it'll give you a good idea as to at least one person's success rate.

I guess the thing with poss hets is there is no guarantee, if you're dealing with an honest breeder then you should be ok it's all a gamble. That being said I think that's what makes it fun, you roll the dice and you never know what you'll get, well, to a point :) people drop thousands at casinos for the same thing ;)

Chances are what they are, I've seen poss hets throw no visuals one year and a few the next year with the same breeding. Even with 100% you still have that chance of not getting what you want.

If you haven't already purchased I'd say do you research, do diligence and most importantly have fun! Breeding is an exiting and rewarding thing. Good luck!

I have been extremely lucky with poss. hets. I started my entire lavender albino project with poss. hets. I purchased 10 50% poss het females in 2006 and proved out 7 so far. I also went 5 for 6 on poss. het pieds but I picked out animals with markers. The last poss. het pied girl is still here but hasn't produced a clutch for me yet. In my opinion, if you trust the source poss. hets are a great way to start an expensive project.
