What the heck kinda substrate is this?
I came across this photo looking for pics of firefly bps. What is this stuff? Is it a good acceptable substrate? (It's so pretty...)

It looks like aquarium rocks, lol. Not acceptable I'd say. (Not sure if first post was a joke or not, haha).

Definitely looks like aquarium rock. I had a fish tank with the exact color a couple years back.

Yeah, it does look like aquarium rocks! Weird, I've never seen someone use that for snakes. It's a breeder website, though, so I assume they know more about bps than I do...

I was serious about the prettiness. I like colors.

I use paper towels, which I love for the ease and that it's good for Jackson, but it's so yuck to look at. I care more about Jacksons health than I do about looks, but I do care about looks- so I want something that is more aesthetically pleasing. I thought maybe it was something magical that I didn't know about yet. I am so dissapointed...

I'd assume that's a fake setup for taking pictures of the BPs.

Thats aquarium gravel and it is in no way acceptable as a substrate.

Agreed it's just sort of a picture back drop. I've seen a few pics of theirs and they put alot of animals on that same back drop.
Not to be used as a regular sub though.

Yup. It's a picture setup designed to enhance the colors of the animals. I've seen it a lot at shows.

If you're interested in colored substrate, I know that there is dyed aspen available. I've seen it in black, red, and green.

Carefresh also comes in multiple colors if you're looking for another option.

I think there is no need to assume that those animals receive as you put it very poor care because they do not.

Those rocks are used as a prop for photography, Mark Petros is a stand up breeder taking very good care of his animals.

You can't judge everything by a picture :gj:

Just for argument sake; why would this make a bad substrate?

    1st does not hold humidity.
2nd is too cold for the snake to sit on.

X3. Mark is an awesome dude with top notch animals. He takes supreme care and has a killer collection. He most definitely doesn't keep snakes on gravel  but they sure make a great prop background.

They do look great against the colors of the rock, that's why I was hoping it was something I could use. Great background for photos, he got me lookin... :gj:

By the way, I didn't mean any disrespect to the breeder by posting this, I just genuinely wanted to know if this was a substrate that I could use. Hehe...
