OK, so I'm just curious what everyone else would do in this situation.. I have a sweet little pastel het pied female. If you had the option between the following 2 males to breed her to which would you choose? Pied Male? or Pastel het pied Male?

Personally I would go with the pied male. With the pastel het pied you will have to deal with probable hets. If you get the pied male you could hit on a male pastel pied and breed him back to mommy for the super pastel pieds. That's just me though.

Pastel het Pied male for sure! Eventually replacing him with a Pastel/Super Pastel Pied son.

I'd go with the pied male. That way you would know that any snakes you produced would at least be hets. In theory you can produce 4 types of snake--pastel het pied, het pied, pied, and if you're very lucky, pastel pieds. But you would know exactly what you had in the offspring and be able to make plans accordingly.

You might luck out and get a superpastel pied if you do a pastel het pied x pastel het pied cross. But then again you might end up raising up some pastels or superpastels and finding out that they missed out on the pied gene.

I'd save the pastel het pied male for visual pied females. That way you know exactly what genetics the offspring are and you can pick future breeding partners accordingly. That is how I'd do it anyways.

Well it depends solely on what you want to produce. Do you want pieds solely? If so put the pied to her cause the chances are better and less poss hets to deal with. If your looking for best bang for the buck as far as making money on the clutch id spend the money on a black pastel het pied male. Anything black pastel with pied gene is smokin hot and sells super fast

I would go pastel het pied, but if you're looking to make some money starting out probably the pied male would be a better investment.

I would go with a pied male and hope to make a pastel pied male to put back to mom.

Just so that you all know I actually have a pied male that I'm getting up to size. I was just curious how people thought. I understand that breeding the pied male provides a bit more security and gives at least %100 Hets. I know that breeding a pastel het pied to pastel het pied would be a gamble, but if you hit on that super pastel pied!!! I guess what it comes down to is if you're a gambler or not :):):)

Pastel het pied no question. We don't spend all the time and energy we do on our snakes to play it safe. You should still get some visual pieds and you have a chance to get something really cool. You will probably keep any female pastels you hatch in hopes of proving them to be het pied. The value in a male pastel het pied and a male pastel 66% het pied is not going to be that different. If it were several years ago when the price of het pieds were still way up there my opinion would be different. Play to win not just finish.
