    Mojave baby!
Oy, this clutch is taking forever to come on out... so I apologize for the multiple threads, but it's helping to pass the time as I wait. ;)

The first little Mojave finally slithered out tonight, and he/she (haven't popped yet) is a cutie! Nice light coloring, and quite the crazy-busy pattern... maybe a good holdback for pastaves, or ???? Anyway, here it is:

Thanks all! These babies really are tiny... last year's clutch averaged (except for the runt) from like 65-75g, and so far these have weighed 52 & 56g. And I haven't even seen the "boobie egg" yet, which will probably be even smaller! I wonder if that's relative to the mother's size, since last year's mom was ~2500g & this year's was only 1870g pre-lay.

So, the second Mojave just came out... looks like a female, 58g, and she has a REALLY funky neck pattern! Seriously cool, and I think I've found my holdback. ;)

(she was being stubborn about stretching out)

Got to love Mojaves! Those are really nice looking for sure! That 2nd one out looks lighter, almost like a Hypo Mojave!

    congrats,

that neck long stripe thing is like a dominant trait. Ivory has that too and the mojave and that normal have it. Nice looking mojaves.

Thanks! And yes, I do think Julius throws neck-striped babies... your kiddo has it, like you said, as do the majority of his other (11) offspring. Interesting, huh?

Even more interesting, the fourth baby emerged this morning, and it's a VERY dark normal male. Both Nerissa and Julius are very light, and the other babies have been light too - so I almost suspect a split-clutch, since this boy looks suspiciously like my black pastel (a normal counterpart). She did spend a few nights with him, so I guess it's possible! He's also a feisty one, and I have a feeling he'll be the first to tag me.

    Here he is:

All four... check out the difference between the normals!

Thanks to you & everyone else who commented! Isn't the second one beautiful? Hard to capture their coloring in these photos, but the lighter shots are more close to accurate... she's much lighter than average, and I'm still really digging that neck pattern. I think she'll make nice pastaves or hypo-mojaves one day, don't you agree? ;)

P.S. I have now popped everyone, and unless somebody was hiding something, all except that last normal are females.
