    Intro
Hey everyone this is my first post here but ive been lurking in on this site for about 2 months now and it has encouraged me to get back into ball pythons, when i was in grade school(8th grade to be exact, i am now 1 year out of high school) i bought a ball python hatchling from a pet store and i asked the guy who was their how to properly take care of my new pet and he told me that i dont need a thermostat,(we all know that that is a must but i didnt know that 6 years ago and after being told from the employee that i didnt need one i didnt get one).

when i asked him how big of prey i should feed and how often he said mouse 1 mouse pinky every 7 days(i now know that that is not nearly enough but 6 years ago i didnt and i didnt think to second guess the employee cause he was taking care of them). I feed the 2 hatchlings i acquired over the past month(thanks to everyone on this site:D) rat fuzzies/pups so i was really under feeding my old ball python(that i had 6 years ago) that died(2 months after i bought him:() i now know that i was told wrong on how to take care of him so for the past 6 years i didnt want to get another bp cause i thought the same thing would happen... that is until i found this site:D.

I now am starting my collection of Bps and am thinking of breeding them when they get up to size, but they are my pets and i love them dearly.

Please dont criticize me cause of my stupidity 6 years ago i still to this day feel extremley bad for the lack of reaserch that i did and for trusting that store employee.

Think we would be upset with you for loving snakes, and for wanting to take proper care of your pets? :)

Anywho, welcome, nice to have you. I hope you enjoy this site, and learn as much from it as I have so far.

Welcome to BP.net!!!! One thing I have learned while a member here is that there are no stupid questions, and if you have a question about something, someone else probably has the same question. So ask away!!!!!

So very true. Heck, the main reason my post count is so low, is because I spend most of my time of this forum reading what others have experienced or using the search engine to find out what people have asked in the past.

Chances are, if you thought it, then someone else already has.

Dont worry about it man. Welcome aboard. My fiance actually had a similar experience when he was younger. First snake he got theres was something wrong with the entire clutch and every one of them died within two weeks. The second he got as a replacement the pet store employee told him he only needed a 15 gallon tank some newspaper and that was that. He tried to do some independant research and he got a bad thermostat and a ceramic heat lamp but neither were really up to snuff. The poor snake suffered from bad feeding habits, horrible sheds due to lack of humidity and stunted growth because of lack of space and bad eating habits. The poor thing made it five years under those conditions and then accidentally broke his jaw striking at the glass because he couldnt shed well enough to see. At that point he couldnt take food if he wanted to and didnt last long. My fiance swore of snakes for a few years after that and upon hearing the story of montey the unfortunate ball python I did extensive research before buying the little girl we have today. Anyway, my point is mistakes happen, and there comes a point where you can only move forward a more educated person. And now youve a got a forum to help you out on top of that = P
