How long did you have your first before you got another?
My current housing situation only allows for one, but one day...

I started slow. I had my first BP for almost 4 years before I got another snake but not because I didn't want one. I picked up 3 more between June and August and I'm going to the Hamburg PA show on 10/15 and may get more if I can find good deals...

I got my first BP as a rehome from a friend a few years ago. A nice large normal female.
Ive had corn snakes and kingsnakes before but never a BP.
then I got interested in them and read up on breeding and saved some money and I boomed into my collection. In 6 months i got 12 snakes. Now Im all full up unless I build another rack lol which i might break down and do.
    they are VERY addicting!

I started slow as well. Had my first normal girl for about 5 years before I decided to get another one. Of course, my mind frame has changed from having an awesome pet to breeding so there might be some correlation. :P

I got my first Last December. By March I built a rack and bought 2 more. April brought along another, and finally this week I added a boa.

    But it's not addicting.:)

I have always love reptiles and wanted one for a long time, but in high school my parents wouldn't let me. I got pregnant and married very young and my ex husband was a controlling...er...guy...and wouldn't let me get one. I finally realized Jan of this year that I have nothing holding me back from getting one. I came home with my little Julius in Jan, I now have 8 ball pythons, 1 boa, 1 rat, 2 hermit crabs, and 1 tarantula (a.versi) lol. It's an addiction for sure. I remember telling my co-workers "I only want one!" hahahaha

I've always loved reptiles and had the random pet through the years. As a kid I used to go searching for reptiles and finding turtles in the NJ meadowlands was a pastime. I had a bearded dragon through most of my time in college. But because of school and living with my parents, I never went further than that. Now I'm done with school and have my career started, so last fall I was like "what am I waiting for?" So here we are 8 ball pythons (soon 10) and 4 hognoses later.. Lol..

About a month... I got my first normal ball python as a pet, but fell in love with an albino the store got in later, had to get it. It was my dream snake. Now my dream snake is an Albino Clown Piebald. (Got the ingredients for it, two female albinos, a male piebald, and a male clown... but it's a 12 year project! XD)

Got my first one in '94, didn't get my second until 2001. I didn't get any more until a few years ago, when it just kind of snuck up on me.

I got my first one in May 2009. Within a month I had my second, third, fourth and now have 25+ balls, a few kings, and a few boas. I don't know what people are talking about when they say it's an addiction. I can stop, I really can and I will as soon as I get the next one

Got my first BP November 10. Within 3 months I had 3 more. Then came the Boas. I would love to have more but its not so cheap to feed them all. I don't intend to breed and hubby said no more.

Re: How long did you have your first before you got another?
2 weeks, I bought my first one from petsmart. and I went back 2 weeks later to get some stuff I found I needed, they had a new arrival. he was only 6 inches long at best and so cute. but then I had to move to a place that didn't allow pets of any kind (or was suppose to) and re-homed them both. When I didn't get the the place and found something better, I was able to obtain the first one back. then it was like a month later, I was going to go buy a baby red tail boa for $65 but the guy had a full grown BP for the same price, I couldn't wait for my baby to get big and I wanted a bigger one. I just 6 weeks ago obtained a rescued that was found on a guys back porch (her in Houston I have no idea how that one happened) we couldn't find the owner so he gave it to me.

I am getting ready to breed my normal female to a pied male so I don't have spend any money on a pied in the future. and at one of the up coming shows I plan on getting my hands on a spider ball, and hopefully a clown.

I loved reptiles since I was a kid, but it was only last year that I was allowed to get one (Maynard). I had him for about 6 months and I got my second snake (Judith, my Nic. BCI). Then I later added Diana and lastly Victor. It's funny for me to look back and realize that when I got Maynard, I had thought I was just going to have the one snake

I got my first reptile period in 2010; a corn snake I named Old Gregg after the BBC/YouTube video by the same name, lol! Six months or so later I bought a pair (albino, het albino) and am adding four more next week. They sneak up on you, kind of like Pringles: You CAN'T stop at one, lol! :D

I just got my first one last week but I've wanted to have one for years (Mom never allowed me to own one though). Even though we just got her (Normal BP) my husband is already wanting to get a boa and maybe his own BP and mentioning things like breeding. ...I think I know where this is heading... LOL

Typical story: Always loved animals as a kid, but only had fuzzies. Got my first snake (red checkered garter) when I was a whopping 19 or 20. Had several lizards and a tortoise while married, but now ex did not like snakes much. Got divorced and found my beloved current "husband" and although he doesn't love snakes, he likes them and understands my love of them.

I got my first ball python as a trade, back in 06 I believe. But I'd loved them for years. :) She was going to be it, but then fate stepped in and I was (literally) handed my second - my sweet SunSpot, the rescued pastel. Having a male and female, of course, made me start thinking about breeding for my favorite morphs - the Bumblebee and the Albino Spider. :D

Before the stupid recession, I had 10 BP, 5 corns and 1 MBK. Then *WHAM*, everything hit the fan and I am now left with only 1 corn snake (his ironically) and 1 ball python, SunSpot.
Even though I really DO have total control over how many snakes I get (seriously), I decided against breeding and will instead save up to buy or rescue the 3 other ball pythons I want - a high gold/high white spider, an albino, and a bumblebee. :) I intend to keep SunSpot his whole life.

Haha, I bought my first 2 snakes at the same time (August 2010), so I never had just the one  Couldn't just pick one morph! But my first snakes since then are a female fire and a WT that will be coming in the mail next month. I had wanted snakes since I was a sophomore in high school, but my mother never allowed caged animals and the house I moved into after I graduated didn't allow snakes. In hindsight it was actually a good thing, I researched ball python care and genetics (mostly the latter xD) non stop for six years

bought a normal male last year with plans to only have one as a pet. a month later I went to a show and saw a spider ball and had to have it. I had a friend with me at the show that was looking for a normal, so I told her she could have mine because I was buying the spider. it's been a year now with no purchases...but I am picking up a lesser and a pastel at a show tomorrow. not planning on stopping there

My first one was a pet store purchase. I had her about 4 months before I got my second. I only had my second about 2-3 weeks before I ordered my 3rd,4th and 5th. I now have 16 ball pythons, 4 boas, 8 geckos and I'm caring for 2 rat snakes for my sister and a pacman frog for my herp society. I find it hard to imagine that just 10 months ago I only had one snake. :P

I got my little Pakul( Male Normal) From Petsmart last feb. I fell in love immediately and he's been my pride and joy ever since. It wasnt until I started looking at morphs that I really wanted another one, and not until I entertained the thought of breeding that I really decided I was going to get one. We decided to nab ourselves a female spider once we find one we fall in love with = p it hant happened yet, but im hoping really soon.

Wife bought the daughter one in 2007. I actually had a phobia of snakes. Took 3-4 months before I even touched it. About a month after that I was handling it regularly. Dropped $1800 on a female bee, $400 on a male pastel Het for albino, and $900 on a female albino all in the first month of 2008. About $20,000 later now we have a sizeable collection and a little of this and a little of that. Between hold backs and the like we are probably close to $34,000 in value of animals.

I picked up by first snake in March 2011 when I came home from overseas, and he is a Ghost. Now, six months later, I picked up a hatchling female bumblebee, and am already planning the next two. I'm going to try and find a 2010 female pied soon, and then try to test my patience with four genes.

Then of course, I'm looking into boas.

My girlfriend may be right, I'm going to end up with a zoo (considering lizards and turtles, haha)

Always had boas growing up..then when my kids got a little bigger i went and got another one.. my 2 year old loved holding him but he was squezzing a little two tight and getting very big...so she was getting nervous and not wanting to hold anymore..and the main reason on getting snakes again was to share my love of snakes with the kids.. so i gave my boa to a friend and learned about ball pythons(BIG MISTAKE)my first ball was a spider in july of 2010 and now i have 8 and the madness has begun...and the kids love them....priceless...very happy dad...not so happy wife...hahahahaha

Re: How long did you have your first before you got another?
every time my mom and I go to the local pet store, I always shoot strait to the herps. The first time she went in she wanted to look at a beta fish for my step-dad. She told me if I brought home another animal she would kill me, she told me this while I was cuddling with one of the hedge hogs. I make a regular visit even if I am not buying feeders every Wednesday before church and then after church on Sundays. They have baby Burmese pythons in there right now and I seem to be the only one that can go in there and pick one out with out getting struck at or bitten. Then I have to go play with the Hedgies ( I love those guys, and again I am about the only one that can reach in and pick them up with out them puffing out to spike me) and then I gotta play with the prairie dogs, and the take out a beardie or two to ride on my shoulder, and then I play with the baby tortises. I will speed two hours in this store every Wednesday and Sunday with my playing with my friends. and this last time I went in to buy feeders, I almost walked out with a baby beardie and the owner was like nope can't let ya, your mom will kill you.

It is, but they aren't joking in that it will take a long time. I'm wanting to make a HumblePie (spider, pastel, ghost, piebald)

The hard part is getting all of the recessive genes to show.
