    mites?
hey everyone i just looked it on my spider and i noticed 2 tiny black bug running around on her paper towels i smashed them, i picked her up and triple checked her and i didnt see anything on her, and there is no little bugs in her water dish and i have never seen her soaking in her water dish but when i put her back she yawned 2 times about a minute apart. and ive heard that mites get in their mouth so that made me think maybe she does have mites.

any advice is much appreciated thanks

Don't take any chances. Where there are 2, there are more...AND their eggs. Only safe bet is to begin the full mite-eradication process, unfortunately. You're gonna have to do it anyway, so might as well be proactive about it before more show up, cause they WILL show up.

    Good luck.

i looked again and there was no blood where i smashed the 2 bugs it was just guts and it is really hard to see, does that mean that the 2 bugs i smashed aren't mites?

I say buy PAM (Provent-a-mite) and not take the chance...

More that likely they are but if they were small you dont see much, one of our rescues had mites that were trying to bum smokes off of me and almost car-jacked my wife:O They left big ole blood spats and I could hear them pop:O

after hearing that i dont think that they are mites i just think they got in from the screen top but i already ordered PAM just in case, i will defiantly be keeping close eye on all of my snakes but now i find myself just staring at the paper towels for like ten min( i cleaned her tank, hides, and i am baking her log right now and changed paper towels so if she has them hopefully they will reveal themselves!!!)

Just an FYI, the Reptile Relief spray is much milder than PAM and works great. I think it's a little cheaper too.

Don't want to hijack thread, but how does one get mites? Letting it outside ETC?

That's always a possibility. But more likely is picking them up at a show or pet shop and bringing them home to your own collection. Or, MOST likely, is getting a new animal that has them and then they spread like a damn plague. Hence, the need for quarantining any new additions. Mites suck!

When mine got mites I only ever seen one. After they started soaking there were dozens in the water. They hide really well, and if you found two you should deffinately treat them.

i am planning on treating them when the pam gets here but when did you start to see your snake soaking cause iv'e never seen her soaking or any little black dots in her water dish nor have i seen her acting like something is bothering her. The reason why i think she has mites other than smashing the 2 bugs is that when i put her back in her tank she yawned twice about a min apart and after i smashed the bugs i googled snake mites and on a website it said that they get in thier pits and mouth but when she yawned i didnt see any black dots in her mouth.
