Why can't people do their research before they buy?!
My tolerance for "stupid" people is usually pretty high, but I really hate it when people are so willing to point the blame at someone else.
There is a local reptile shop that I really like and I go to all the time and I dare say I'm starting to become friends with the owner. Well as I was browsing craigslist I came across a very negative ad about said shop. I get that everyone is allowed to voice their own opinions, but the thing they were complaining about was not the fault of the shop.
The ad was a complaint about how their friend bought a ball python (I know it was a hatchling because that's all they have for sale right now) and they couldn't hold it because it was too mean and kept trying to bit them. They did not give the poor thing time to settle in or take into account the fact that it was a baby and probably extremely stressed. No, they blamed the shop for creating and selling aggressive animals because they feed their reptiles live and they feed in their enclosures.
The ad was looking for more complaints against the shop, but I responded kindly explaining all the things there were wrong with their complaint. I then flag the ad and informed the shop owner, but it just makes me so mad to see things like this. Why do people think it's okay to post such ignorant comments? Craigslist is not a forum so it's hard to really publicly respond to these things.
I would really hate to see this ad negatively impact the business that shop gets. :(

You really shouldn't take it so personally. Any one with any semblance of intelligence would take such an obviously horrible review with a grain of salt; and any one who is ready to own a bp would know immediately that everything said in the review was done hastily and incorrectly.
So think of it this way, the review only serves to keep like-minded retards from owning pets they have no business keeping. It's a win-win.

Agreed.
However, you really shouldn't complain about ignorant people after spelling bite. "bit" There is a preview post button...
just my 2 cents...

Good. It's keeps those kinda people out of his business and out of this hobby.

Kinda harsh IMO and doesn't have anything to do with the OP's posting. I'm sure it was just a typo on their part.
To the OP: ignorant (and arrogant) people are everywhere unfortunatly, you just have to deal with it :(

Hence, the "preview post" button. Whatever, I guess I'm wrong. I'm out...

Great, he is simply making discussion in a public forum. No need to critique, this isn't an English class. Although I could do the same to you since I see a few flaws in your post. But I am not going to.
Anyways, just ignore poeple like that OP. All past customers of that shop know that their business is good so they will be fine.

Re: Why can't people do their research before they buy?!
just a tad bit off subject but yet, still reminds me of... One day I was in the pet store I go to, and the owner, this other customer and I was talking about snakes. The other customer said she wouldn't allow snake in her home, the owner said that too and that she didn't like snakes... I was like "Look at your store", and she said it was just that, a business. That kind of up set me a bit, because the other pet store where I used to live the owner and works had a love for the animals. They would always handle those that could be handled, taking snakes out on a regular basis to keep them socialized and what not.
but then it dawned on me, She might not like all the animals, but her two employees have that love for them and all there animals are healthy! accept the two uromastyx but they where rescues and came to her like that.

I never said you were "wrong", I was just giving you my .02 cents as you gave your .02 cents to the OP....anyways I won't derail this thread anymore.

I know this is not suppose to be funny but your first line had me laughing hard! Sometimes you just have to let stupid people say stupid crap you know.
-
Like Ron White says, "You can't fix stupid." I agree with mpkeelee. The shop owner doesn't need business from those kinds of people and this hobby certainly doesn't need nor want them.
-
Kinra I am with you. My beef is the no research and then discovering that thermostats and enclosures are expensive and not wanting to spend more... I belong to a rescue group and the number of animals that are impulse buys is shocking. After a bit of time the buyer gets board, realizes it wasn't a good idea (giving an iguana to a 3 year old...) and dumps it into someone else's lap.
bdpicha most ignore spelling and gramatical errors. I believe there is a site rule surrounding this.

I probably did take the post to be a little more personal than I should have, but I know the shop is a good shop and they really care for their animals so it bothered me. They said their friend ended up returning the bp (this was also in the post) so that is also good I guess.
I know the hobby doesn't need these kinds of people, but if you look at it from a different angle, these people aren't going to go away so isn't it better if they spend their money in good reptile shops keeping them open for the rest of us instead of the local chain pet stores that we all know are horrible? And if they are posting things like this other people who are not so experienced with reptiles might not even venture into the store. It's really in MY best interest if this store stays open because they have pretty much everything I could ever need AND they are cheaper than Petsmart.
Also I know that posting a thread about someones ignorance that contains typos and spelling errors makes me look foolish, but in my defense I'm a math and science kind of girl and I've never been very good at spelling. It was also after midnight my time and I've been working some pretty long days lately so I was rather tired when I wrote the original post. :P

Re: Why can't people do their research before they buy?!
Kinra dont take it personally about typos. I use my phone the majority of the time and my fat fingers on a little keyboard make me look like an idiot lol its all good we all know what ya meant with the post and you are right. The thing that drives me nuts is these are animals and not domesticated animals. They also dont have hands or feet so of course they bite. They are snakes. Also im on the fence with pet shops cause the majority of them buy the cheapest stock to resell and dont take the appropriate measures in general husbandry. But i know there are some good ones out there but they are few and far between but keep in mind when someone posts and ad like that they make themselves look like an idiot to the people that know snakes and knows that its not the shops fault the snake bit them. It would be like someone blaming ford that they wrecked their focus cause they cant drive worth a damn.

Nobody claimed I was wrong. I did. I shouldn't have posted that, especially being new here.
I apologize for being so "nit-picky". It wasn't necessary.

That is the same reason I tend to bump heads with morons.
Its not what they are saying but more, who is reading it.
They talk a bunch of crap and the people that dont know any better think its true.
"Have you ever met anyone that has a key to their pitbull with the "locking" jaws???":rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Good stepping up. Everyone here tries to be helpful and respectful of each other.
People come from all walks of life, and our main objective is sharing info on keeping our animals healthy and happy. There's really no room for picking apart silly things like grammatical errors because it serves no useful purpose.:)

Last post in this thread for me.
I think I was just in funk last night. I didn't intend to be mean really, but it turned out that way. This forum has been very nice to visit and has provided so much information.
To the OP, sorry for derailing your thread.
