    Not Sure What I Have
Here's the deal. I paired my pastel female with my pastel male and my lesser male and had a 7 egg clutch. It looks like I have maybe some super pastels, and pastel lessers, but one has me confused. As soon as I saw it I thought to myself ghost, but none of my snakes are supposed to have the ghost gene.

    Here is the female pastel.

    Here is the male pastel.

    Here is the male lesser.

    Here is the clutch.

Here is the suspected ghost next to a normal.

These are only 24 hours out of the eggs and I realized that they're not really colored all the way and it might be a little early to tell but I would really like to hear some of your opinions to what they may be.

i got them off a guy in :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r:ord ohio, he was like the third owner and he only knew of them being pastels, they're the same age and quality so im guessing their sibs. i really dont have any idea who produced them or how to find the guy i got them from.

Here's the problem now.. If it IS a ghost, you don't know which of the sires is actually the het ghost... It could be the pastel, but could also be the lesser.

I agree on waiting until they shed. Then get pics on a white background under a daylight bulb. Those pics are glaring their color for some reason.

Seeing as there are pastels Hypos and super pastels or SPOG's in the clutch and no lessers I'd feel safe saying that the pastel is the dad..But that's just me.

You might be right.. In the first group pic, the one in the top left looks like it might be a SPOG.

So now that I look at them closer, I'm not really seeing any lessers in there either.

    Hey neighbor....I'm in Dayton too.
Looks like a Ghost.....hard to tell for a certainty cause of the picture quality but looks like there may also be a SPOG in there. Congrats on the surprise!!

Hidden hets are out there....the more the ball python community grows..so will unsuspecting hets. My friends and I produced a Pied last yr from a Pastel male to CH female....imagine the shock of seeing a Pied that shouldn't be there!! :O

i sell poss hets and 100% hets as normals all the time. its easier to sell a bunch of normals than it is to sell a hand full of male het albino's or pos het anythings.

Great looking animals! Please be forwarned... these things are a day out of the egg. Try not to get too excited until after a shed or two.

Often times fresh out of the egg a baby looks crazy... but then after a shed or two it ends up looking just like its siblings.

TYVM. this was really unexpected. im new to breeding, this was only my second clutch ever. the first clutch was the same pastel sire in this one to a normal which gave me 3 pastels and 2 normals.

these babies are begining to color up a lil bit but for the life of me i still cant decide whats what. i didnt think it would be a big deal. lessers, pastels, and pastel lessers; who cant tell them apart? right? the only ones im sure about is the normal and the orange ghost that isnt supposed to be there.

im all for getting better pics but is it even worthwhile until after they shed?

Wait until after they shed. They will look different. Mine shed a week ago and are still changing.

    Nice!

Looks like a Normal, Hypo, Super Pastel, 2 Pastel Hypos and 2 Super Pastel Hypos!

Not only to people sell CB poss hets/hets all the time as normals...There are probably more Hypos then any other Morph in Africa...Which means they are producing tons of hets in the Wild that are being brought over as just WC Normals...

I agree with cold blooded. The blacks are much too faded to be lesser but definitely post more pics after the first shed and you should know for sure.

If they are hypos those are awesome odds on a het to het pairing.

I have to agree...but I thought a pastel to pastel couldn't produce normals....?!?!

You lose all normal options with a super pastel.;)

pastel to pastel makes normals, pastels and superpastels.

if either parent would have been a superpastel there would have been no normals.

thanks to everyone for the comments. i'll get more pics post-shed.

so, the first clutch this male sired with a normal female that yielded 3 pastels and 2 normals would that clutch be 50% het?

to be honest i never spent much time trying to figure out how recessives work because i didnt have any. lol

Pastel is a co-dom so het is not possible.

Yup, assuming the pastel is het hypo (I think we can agree he is) those offspring from the first clutch are all 50% het hypo.

    Congrats on a sweet surprise!

i feel really blessed. usually my luck is on the fritz, i was really suprised when they weren't all normal or just more of what we already had. i feel like showing my neighbors what a 6'1" 230lb guy doing a cartwheel looks like!

just out of curiosity what are they worth? i havent been able to find much on the pog or spog. looked on KS and fauna.

i got into this with my sons 9 and 17 a couple years ago so we'd have something to do together. these are our pets, we never intended to sell or "make money". the idea was we'd make the coolest snakes we could with what we have and trade some babies around to other people for genes we didnt have.

Let you in on another secret.. Hypo (orange ghost) gene, makes hets slightly lighter. When you've hatched enough of them, you can usually visually tell which of the possibles are most likely going to prove out as 100%.

So if that normal is a female, my advice is to hold it back and breed one of the super pastel hypos to it to prove it out. I say this because that normal is very light. It's head spot is rather faded. If it holds that color after it sheds, I'd be hoping it's a female to hang on to and breed back. Having no other normals in that clutch to compare it to makes it hard to say for sure, but it looks pretty promising.

It looks like the one in the top left is the only SPOG. The other light one looks like it's just a super pastel. You'll know soon tho.
