Looking for a breeder female normal any ideas were to find one?
Hey I'm looking for a female breeder normal, I've been checking craigslist on a daily basis but don't seem to be able to find one that I want. My question is does anyone have any suggestions of where to look for one, I've tried fauna classifieds and kingsnake, but you have to include shipping so you end up paying like $200+ for a normal which seems kind of high to me. So is there another site I haven't checked yet that people commonly post bps on? I'm not trying to post a want add here and I'm not asking people if they have any available here I just want to know if anyone has some suggestions of where else to look... Thanks in advance

doesnt bhb enterprises have breeder females for 75 with shipping about 39 dollars. They are breeders just lost weight because of eggs.

thats a good suggestion accept I don't feed live and I know they feed there bps live :(

Hi,
I thought Brian has said in the past they feed mix of live and F/T?
Phone him and ask him would be my advice.
But then I also think $200 for a breeding sized female is about right.

$200 is the standard for a ready-to-go normal breeder. Craigslist and such is really the best way to look and people with just pet snakes tend to not know the value of what they have. My biggest girl I got for $50 on CL.

If you look at the time involved in growing her out, $200 is a cheap drop in the bucket.
All 3 of the girls that I have that are ready to go came off of CL BUT I did pay $200 for my proven granite.;)
The trick is your search on CL, you almost have to come up with "key" words to find them sometimes. I just use my basic 4 (snake, python, pythons, reptile):gj:

Beware of CL deals, often people selling their "big normal female BP" actually have a male but were told female because it got big, it has a fat tail, a skinny tail, spots on the sides... anything. So you could pay a decent price to get a normal male.
Advertise on reptile forums of what you're looking for, a minimum size, that you want them feeding on FT, etc. If no one responds, you didn't lose anything.

I know that BHB has been working on switching many of there adult bp's to F/T, and are having pretty good success with it. If you give Brian a call I wouldn't be surprised if he could find you one that he has switched already.

It is possible to switch. I just bought a 2010 male ghost that grew up live his whole life, and just took a f/t rat for me first shot ;)

Re: Looking for a breeder female normal any ideas were to find one?
I feed live, for the most part - I do have an albino that I feed f/t to (I don't like seeing scratches on him, they're visible on albinos). When he refuses, I don't have any trouble finding another live feeder in my collection that will take it. Now keep in mind, this is only offered to my established collection. I would never offer a refused prey item to another animal in my collection from a refusal from a QT'd animal.
My point is - my snakes are just good feeders, period. Even though they've always been on live, they're not about to turn down food, even if it's f/t.
I've gotten a few girls off of Craigslist in the past, but I knew how to sex them, and I was up front with the person with the ad, that I'd only be taking it, if I was allowed to sex it and it was female.
The ONE time I didn't sex an animal before taking it, it ended up being a male.

If you get a breeder female that laid recently (i.e. hasn't put all her weight back on), she will likely eat whatever you offer her. I have 3 breeder normals that never ate F/T before they came to my house, and all are eating well. Two of them wouldn't even look at F/T until after they laid eggs, and now they don't care at all. The third came to me a couple of weeks ago (laid 7/29), and hasn't refused F/T yet.

Well like others have said it wouldn't hurt to give Brian a call. You can find them at shows too, but this time of the year there arnt as many. You will see a bunch for sale around June,July and august but as soon as fall hits they are pretty hard to come by. By this time everyone has sold what they had and more people are looking. My advice is next year as soon as you see all the babies for sale, look for females. That's when you'll see the most. You will have to put some weight back on them but that's when you'll see them at all the shows and classifieds. Not at all saying anything bad about you so please don't take this wrong, but you always see the people that wait until fall to look for females but the thing is by this time of the year there gone. Good luck on finding you one. I do know that the past few days BHB has had some big girls up on their Facebook auctions so I'm sure he will have one if you call him!

I live in Oregon and see them periodically on CL, especially in Portland. In fact, there was one posted there just yesterday. Good luck on your search.

Do you have any reptile shops near you? If so, just tell them to call you if they get any big females in. I did that and not only did I get two big normal females, but they were proven breeders from a customer that was thinning out his normals. Paid $200 total for BOTH of them. They are eating machines and have bred for me both of the past two years.
