    California Kingsnake died
I got a California Kingsnake female a few weeks ago at the Daytona expo. She was an adult female and laid 13 eggs. She acted normal for the few weeks I had her. Just now, I looked in her cage, and she was dead, laying across the bottom with her mouth open. I called the breeder and he said that he didn't know what could have happened. I checked the temperature, and its around 75, with a hot spot of 88-90, depending on the depth of the bedding. How could she have died? The breeder said he had her for 3 years before selling her to me, and he hatched her.

She was only 3 years old, I tried using an aquarium air pump to pump air into her for a long time. Her windpipe was open and her mouth was in the bedding, she was fine a few hours ago. I didn't open her cage, but I just saw her there, looking at me through the plastic.

I need a new FEMALE adult, breedable or proven breeder Ca. King if anyone has any. Any morph that can be inherited without another copy of its gene (dominant or codominant), to breed to my chocolate and banana abberant male.

your just going to get one and throw them in together? what about quarantine? you should out the snake into the fridge and schedule a necropsy with your vet to prevent anything being spread to your collection, if it is something that can be spread.

No! I keep them all seperate, to prevent disease and also kingsnakes eat each other. The breeder said it would be expensive to take it to a vet, and they would just say what I wanted to hear. With the vets near my house, it sounds like what they would do.

i meant for breeding. it sounds like you just want to get a new breedable female so you can pair them up. i highly recommend a necropsy or you may lose all of your animals. sorry for your loss.

Was she egg-bound. This is common in colurbids more than boids. And if she just laid eggs one could of cause internal problems.

Wont know for sure iwth out tests done. But breeder does owe you something ater 3 weeks. No healthy snake should die in 3 weeks unless husbandry problems could be the problem.

On other side 88-90 is WAY to hot for colubrids. 80-84 is all they need for a warm side.

Yes, I would quarantine them. She was completely separate, but I'll see how much it would cost.

The breeder said that when he had her for 3 years she was fine, and she didn't cost very much. The hot spot is only about 3 inches, and when all the bedding is there its even cooler. They have the whole rest of the 2 foot cage to get a cool side if they needed one.

I think it was last year (2010) that she was bred. I'll ask the breeder.
