any other gearheads out there?
Little project I picked up back in December '10.
A very straight '92 roller with plans on doing a '93 Cobra (Fobra) conversion. Somewhat of a "pro-touring"ish concept with a full host of suspension/brake/bracing goodies. Jury it still out on motor: built 347/331 stroker (NA, turbo, or blown) OR '03/'04 Cobra OR '11/'12 Coyote 5.0... forntunately that part is still several years out.
When she came home...
http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/...k/DSC05773.jpg
A prior owner had started to make her a 1/4 mile car (6pt rollbar and tubular k-member)...

http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/.../dec10cage.jpg
http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/...32511trunk.jpg
I have logged about 60 hours on her... local move, work, family, and a brutally hot summer have not allowed for much opportunity. Hoping for a mild Texas winter.
If interest is sparked, I will continue to post up my progress... if not, thanks for looking.

Re: any other gearheads out there?
Of course there is. Heres my project I've been working on since high school....basically 05
62 GTO Ferrari fiberglass replica, 74 Datsun 260z chassis, 350 chevy and trans were pulled out of an old 80's truck.
back when I got her

Pics from last year I think

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...Picture076.jpg
I havn't done much with her in the last couple years, just drive her around from car show to car show. Interiors a disaster, motor has pretty rough, trans likes to play games. still tons of work to be done, but she catches everyones attention from the outside. Next big thing I want to do is build a e85 motor and drop a 5 speed in there at the same time. Tho my snakes seem to take a lot of my car money lol. One day I'll get to it.
keep us updated on your project!

Damn man! That is sweet, love the silver.

Coyote motor, and you'd have upgrade options down the line when Ford release the blower they have in planning for it.
Would probably end up costing you about the same as building a stroker... my $.02 anyway.

Agreed & there should be no shortage of low mile motors out there in a couple of years. Honestly I am a bit intiminated doing conversion, though I have some good resources for consulting & lending a hand.

Pretty straight fox man... Im new to this site and BP's all together. But Far from New when it comes to Fords. Mustangs must be crazy in TX. Just about every part I sell is shipped to TX. A guy just bought the single turbo kit off my 99 Cobra for a Fox body with a mod motor outside of houston.
Here is my 99 Cobra. Built teskid, 4r70w lentech, SRA 33 spline C-clip elim kit. full spool.... You know the goodies. Im looking for a 9.5 sec. pass. Now she is non-turbo while we fab up a new kit for the foward facing s380r. (Needs paint and street rims but that all will come after the 9.5 sec pass.)
Next to my new toy a 01 crown vic. Going with a 96-98 cobra engine and juice just for fun.

The some old foxes... 347 in the coupe, stock 302 in the black hatch with E cam, explorer heads, and bolt-on's. I love fox bodies but I tend to sell them without wanting too. I was filling the black one up and while pumping gas someone made me a offer. Then roughly the same thing with the coupe.

I have had a couple SN-95's... Here is the last one I just sold next to my WRX/STI

And my buddies Race car. He is the owner of excessiveracing.com. The guy can do anything with a Ford power plant. He built the first 327 CI out of a 281 cast block. Before him they only went to 323. His race car is a push rod motor tho.

Sorry for rambling on, but I have only met 2 people interested in Mustangs and snakes lol. And your one of them. You got a great start there which im sure you know. Seems like you havent made your mind up on the powerplant yet. I know that feeling.

In a couple years you could prolly also find a tranny to go with it too, but i'm not sure if there's any workaround for the PATS yet, the old type A PATS all you had to do was use a matching steering column and ignition for the PATS type motor you had (and have a dealer flash them if they weren't from the vehicle you pulled the motor from).

QuickCobra- gonna be quick car.no doubt. I believe I like the orange coupe the best... but have always been partial to coupes.
This is only my 5th 'stang -3rd fox, a 2v and 4v SN95(spread over the last 20 years). It changes daily in my head where I want to go with motor... which ever way 1.) it will pass emissions and 2.) it willl have ac (something not figured out yet on Coyote-I believe) 3.) and a streetable 400+rwhp. All three powerplants will get me there.

Here is a little project I've been working on for a while. 2004 Dodge SRT-10 Ram. On engine number 3. Tuned this week and made 670hp and 760 lbs at the rear wheels.
I bought the truck in 2004 with a blown motor. It had only 2k miles! We built another and it grenaded at the Mopar Nationals. It was a long haul getting all the parts (well saving up for the parts) to get her back together. I'm real pleased with the results. For those that don't know trucks they are the ones with the viper motor. Over the years we finished the motor..all billet, customer cam, bored, stroked, arp studs and billet cross bolted mains, custom fuel system.
When times were good I got a Paxton Supercharger kit for it. That thing has been sitting in the garage for 4 years and i didn't have the $$$ to do it. Finally got it done and tuned LAST week!

Thats a very achievable goal man, 400hp is pretty simple with all 3 power plants. The 03/04 may be the most fun imo But I love the mod motors. I am lucky not to have emissions here in FL. My Cobra still has all the options leather, power seats, a/c, p/s. Im not a fan of removing all the luxuries. I like to get in my caar and take a drive. It will be able to drive daily and do some Mustang cruises (running on a different map of course)
I do know tho... Since my family and I are mostly from TX. theres ways to "pass" emissions lol.

This video was after the new crate 514 was put in. Not best traction as didnt have cheater slicks on at the time so the car fish tails on no blacktop roads. With the cheaters on on the right road, front end came up about 2 feet off ground
Anyways ended up getting a nice 10.1 run out of it before selling it. His 649rwhp. had a lot more plans for it but couldnt afford it any longer.

Thanks man. that is SICK numbers for a stock motor. That year viper had forged internals so it was built to last. My motor as built now can handle way more boost but I just can't make it. Underground Racing has built 1500 hp turbo motors with the same build. I should have gone turbos..... but hey its still scary fast at nearly 700 hp. I have witnessed 1400hp gen 2 turbo vipers and can only imagine what it would be like to drive! My flying 5000lbs brick will roast them in 2nd and 3rd as it is.

I hear ya on the creature comforts. I will have quite abit of sound deadener/block in it... hate the tin can feel/sound, getting old I guess.
Well aware of passing the emissions thing, don't want to play those games. With the modest #'s I am shooting for, the right cam, high flo cats and tune should keep things good.

The pics suck but that's all I have left since she's been scrapped after an old guy in a cadillac hit me and twisted the frame beyond recognition.
I dabble in 4 wheels but this is what I'd much rather wrench on, this pic was taken about 6 months ago during a 2 hr GP style race.

devildog- diggin' the Zook. Seems we share a brain. I however have moved on from the bikes. My last was a '97 KTM 300EXC- mainly did hairscrambles and turkey runs. Shattered my leg back in '92 (motocross) and never quite got back (more mental I think), found it was taking too much toll on me and hung up the leathers in '99.
-
Nice, I started out racing desert, only raced moto a few times.
I've broken my right collar bone 5 times, left collar bone once, broke one ankle and tore ligaments in the other, dislocated a knee, and completely exploded a hip, so I know what you're sayin there... I'm only 26 but can't hardly stand up without something hurting... my girlfriend always calls me broken haha.

Yeah, I hear ya. 41 here, can't sit for too long, pay for it when I do. Things certainly catch up with you. Guess this is what we get when we act indestructable in our teens, 20's and err ahhh 30's...

I love it, went from a supercharged civic (yea yea) to the s2k, so much fun, I'm 5'7" so I have no problems, but I do have a couple large friends that can fit, but not without the top down.

I can't really stand s2ks....they are too long in front and to short in back for me. Ill stick with my nissans and volvos. :)

Nice SRT-4!
Love all the rides so far :)
I got a first gen Neon coupe awaiting a brand new custom 2.4 block and turbo build. I have 90% of the parts including the brand new block, Hahn turbo, and most all of the expensive stuff but need a few more drivetrain things and my Megasquirt still. Aiming for 500hp and driving weight around 1900lbs. I'll grab pics after I get it washed.

I just traded in my 04 Sti. :( had a slowboy 20g turbo and all the bla bla stuff. I loved it but I was pushing 110k miles and also have a 79 Vette I want to put money into. Plus wanting to buy some good racks for the snakes. ;)

Thanks. That's what happens when you have -3 degrees camber on a drag radials from the day before. Was raining on the highway and the car just decided to hydroplane. I couldn't save it. :( The worst part is no one stopped to help me. I had to call emergency services myself in the rain. FAIL.

Thanks!
That thing will be a beast. I'm rocking a Delta 46 with supporting mods. She runs good, but if I get the cash, I'm looking at switching out to a borg warner series. :D

I'll take a GTR, or a 370z that's the only (new) Nissans I would drive, as far as a Volvo? I'm not 50 yet.

nah, I'm not hating, I love cars, I know there are some fast volvo's, any of the "R" trim can hold their own. It's just that I'm 34 years old and grew up when the Volvos were big heave square bricks, and its hard to get that image out of my mind. :-P and I don't like fanboys, so when people ask me what kinda cars I like, i just tell them "fast ones". I'm getting really close to buying a GTR actually, bang for the buck (on new cars) its pretty hard to beat, you have the ZR1, but IMO I think a Nissan would last longer than a Chevy with the car being a daily.

Car I grew up in was a 65 mustang fastback with a built 351 cleveland in it. My father and I would go to the drag strip just about every weekend without fail and just have a blast. Running on all motor it would do a 10.3 second pass back to back to back every weekend. Right now it is currently being restored since some of the underbody had started to rust. Should be back together next spring. My current play toy is a 02 jetta 1.8t. That thing is a blast to drive. Just have the basics done it to it right now but had it out on the dyno and ended up putting 210hp and 217tq which isnt bad for just a flash and an exhaust.

Richs... Thats a 649 RWHP launch? Or was that number after the video and more work?

Not a full launch as tires as you see had bad traction. Car wasnt street legal and wasnt putting cheater slicks on for a quick video. When the slicks are on at the track the wheelie bar was required due to car would lift 2ft+ in front. I was able to do a 10.1 at track but father hit 9.89 and 154mph with the 514 after the gears were redone. The car was still a stick since no money for newer tranny.

APR or something else? My '02 A4 1.8T desperately wants an APR Stage 1+ and some TT225 injectors - going from 170HP (stock) to 230 would wake the car up nicely. Gotta have some spare money lying around first, though; the software is $500, the injectors are $340, the upgraded DV (thinking of going with the Synchronic because to my non-engineer eyes, at least, it seems like a really good design) is another $180, and the Podi boost gauge I want to go along with that stuff is $200. $1200 or so plus shipping, and me with "real" expenses. :( Maybe I can at least get the boost gauge soon - if nothing else, it'd be useful for problem diagnosis.
-
-
olstyn- Yes I have APR stage 2 since I have a full turboback exhaust. Wait til around Xmas time and APR will usually do a special on a fully loaded ECU for $500 which is the normal price for 1 program and stock. I was able to get a 91 tune, a 93 tune, a 100 tune, valet, and stock for $500. The DV I went with was a Forge Splitter. It is the best of both worlds. And as far as boost gauges go, I am running a Prosport gauge. You can get a mechanical one for roughly 40 bucks, and if your car has the blue/red gauges, it matches almost perfectly. If you have any questions, shoot me a pm.
-
Ghosted - yeah, I know about APR's semi-frequent sales, and will definitely go that route when the time comes. I just wish the base price would drop rather than getting extra features I don't need added on free. (I really just need the 91 octane tune, as 93 octane is pretty scarce around here and I just about never take my car to the dealer anyway, so the stock shouldn't be necessary and I'm not particularly worried about the valet option.) Regarding the boost gauge, I know there are cheaper options, but the Podi ones integrate so well with the A4 interior that they just really appeal to me. It'll look like it belongs there rather than being something "tacked on," if you know what I mean.
-
olystn- Yea I know what you mean about something looking integrated vs being just a simple slap and dash job. I plan on getting something a little different down the line, but for now it suits my purpose. Do you ever go on the vwvortex forums? They have alot of info about different tuning companies as well. There is alot of buzz going on about a newer one that is out there called Gonzo tuning. If I didnt have APR already, I would be highly interested in them.

Really not that expensive to build if you buy the coilovers and joints and fab it yourself, just alot of work.
After the old guy hit me but before I got the motor out to look at the frame I was planning on doing a 5.0 conversion in it, but with the motor/tranny pulled I could see the driver's side lower control arm mount touching the cab... yea she got scrapped at that point.
-
Oh, and spindles... would be pretty hard to build your own that could put up with the abuse.
