    What a total BUST!
Oh man, what a bust... sometimes things in the breeding world just don't go the way they should.

I had purchaed an 08 female albino that I raised from a hatchling... bought her at a show. In 09 I got an 08 male albino for the sole purpose of breeding with her. I paired them the winter of 2009 together and nothing happened. she was big enough but I guess just not ready...

So I paired them again in winter of 2010 and early in the season they locked up many times. She went off feed. They locked up a few more times, then all of a sudden they STOPPED locking up. No matter what I tried I didn't witness another lock... then a few weeks later she started feeding again. :( At that point, totally frustrated, I continued to rotate the albino male... and also started rotating in my male cinny and male spider. Never did see the albino lock again... but of course both the cinny and spider did every time.

    then this happened:

    http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_1718-1.jpg

Once the eggs were in the incubator, I regrouped and made some major changes to my breeding plans. I made several large trades, and to make a long story short, both the Female and the Male albino are now gone. But at least I still had my albino eggs that were hopefully albino! If not I would at least have spider or cinnamon 100% het albino babies....

Today... a total f'n bust. The first egg pipped and it was a normal head. Talk about total dissapointment. I ripped the rest of the eggs a little and sure enough no albinos. To add insult to injury, from what I can see (I only ripped small holes like I always do... so I can't really identify anything for sure) not only are none of them albinos, but it looks like they are ALL normals (No cinny or Albinos) !!!!

How depressing is that? raising albinos from hatchlings just trying to make a hatchling. trading them off and in the end ending up with what looks like 6 normal het albinos. :(

Oh no.... Not one? Holy crap. There's gotta be something else in those eggs. I get no albinos. But all normals? Ouchie
Next season is approaching fast... Try try again.

At least you know they're all het albino?

I really hope that once they emerge, you've got something that just looked normal through the little peep hole in the egg.

    Sorry. It blows.

The cinnamon probably did the job. That would explain the head looking like a normal. Their probably all cinnamon het albino, because albino x alnino = albino

:( I could cry right now I am so frustrated! 100% normal het albinos... the worst possible outcome (next to nothing at all of course)

I need to change my avitar. I hate that snake! I am just glad they are both out of my collection... lol maybe it will help heal my scars.

Sorry for the bad luck Mike but I'm pretty sure when you sold the adults in the back of your mind you knew you were taking a gamble, sadly the gamble didn't pay off :(

Your assumption is probably correct, except there is no cinny's, just het albino's.

i feel your pain! - earlier in the year i got 3x 'poor odds' clutches, back-to-back

spider het pied x pied - 7 eggs - no pieds or spieds
    lesser/enchi x normal - 7 eggs - 7 normals
    pin x normal - 10 eggs - 1 pin, 9 normals

since then, the odds have been coming back to me

    your odds WILL even ;)

Bummer man, maybe you need to burn some incense and offer a rodent(f/t) or two to appease the odds gods. Better luck on future clutches.

    Look at the up side:
You know they are 100% het
keep 2 or 3 girls to grow out and one male.
If your luck turns you could wind up with a dozen or so albinos in a couple years.

I know you already went through the "couple years" part but its the best I got to make light of a sucky situation

Did you atleast get a good sex ratio?

    Aw man, that sucks.

Hopefully the 'odd gods' will make up for it later on. When all is said and done, you can generally expect the 'good rolls' and 'bad rolls' of the dice to balance one another out.

I see good things in your future :-)

    The results are in. 3.3

I could raise up 1.3 of them.... But that is doubtfull. That would be a lot of time, effort, and resources to have a chance to make albinos 2 to 3 years from now... Not to mention in three Years an albino will probably be $150 snake.

I don't know. Will think about it.

Keep .3 and in a year or so find a combo albino male.

    I'm sorry on the odds.

How do you know they are het albino if your male cinny and spider locked to her? Could they not have fathered some or all of the babies?

What a bummer! If you really want to stay in the albino project I would keep 0.3 or use the cash from selling these hets and get another Albino female.. At least you have 6 healthy babies, right?

Because the female was a visual Albino.

Now that is honestly a pretty good idea I didn't think of... It would definitely be worth raising the three females if I ended up pickin up a male albino spider or something along those lines in a year or two when prices come down a bit.

See that? This forum is so great it even pays to come on here and cry and complain about things! Thank you for that idea!!!

i think with the recent turn of events with toffee we will see the price of albino females drop very little if not go up over the next few years. i think anyone with albino females should hold on to em, at least for now. i know mine aren't going anywhere any time soon.

I wouldn't be surprised if the male was just used up too early, before her follicles were actually at the proper size/development. Sure maybe she was still receptive, but maybe he was done for the season (unless you saw him locking up with multiple other girls as well afterwards then all this is moot). In the future, use up your unwanted/waste boys at the beginning, and save your important boy when her follicles are at the right size.

We've got a 3 year old 2200gram pastel boy chasing the girls this season to get their follicles going, because he's huge, can handle missing a meal or two, if he chooses not to eat during breeding season, and I can pretty much guarantee he'll lock with any girl we put him with... but the girls are going to finish up with a mystic who is breeding this year for his first time ever. I know if we tried to breed the mystic to all 8 girls right when their follicles are only dime sized... we're probably not going to end up with any mystics, because he's not going to have the stamina to keep going.

Just an idea. Odds Gods must be appeased, but there are things we can do to make their job a little easier too. :P
