Work has screwed me long enough, Time to put my foot down.
So long story short I have been underpaid for a long time. Work finally offered me a promotion after 5 years so I told them I want a raise to 13.75 an hour with 50% commission on anything I sell, a take home car, a company cell phone, and all of this in writing to include a raise to 15.50 after my 6 month probation. I told them its either this or I walk... I have a meeting with the CEO tomorrow, lets hope I wont be looking for a new job...
-
Good luck, I hope everything works out for the best

well when you make a statement like that i make sure i am ready to look for a new job. but either way i wish you luck.

Re: Work has screwed me long enough, Time to put my foot down.
I have been ready for a new job for a long time, only problem is no one is paying near what I make currently. I am so behind on bills and its rediculous. Im gonna have to start selling off snakes and I really dont want to...
-
so if no one is paying what you are making now, are you really under paid? I mean at some point knowing what the market is for what you do for work is critical when asking for a raise. if you say you are under paid, but nowhere is hiring for what you are making, are you under paid? and if these other places are able to hire people for much less to do what you do, you could find yourself being replaced.
just my thoughts, as i have been there done that. and again i really wish you the best.

GOOD LUCK! Put your foot down and MAKE them know what you are worth to them. You'd be surprised what companies will do past what you get now in order to keep quality employees.
training new people costs them a lot of money.

Re: Work has screwed me long enough, Time to put my foot down.
especially in my job. It cost the company an average of $2000 to get an employee trained. But for those of you who are even a little interested heres a little back story.
As far as the chain of command goes there is the CEO, the VP, Operations Manager, Then me. Well the VP just up and quit. So they are moving the Ops manager up and offering me Ops Manager. Even if they were giving the new VP a 15k a year raise, and giving me what im asking for, they are still saving 56k a year. I dont see what the big deal is.
This is the biggest problem with the company and its why were loosing all our best guys. They dont give a crap about the employee. We dont even get benefits. So Im telling them to put their money where their mouth is. If they are not willing to pay me what Im worth then they can hire some newbie off the street and pay to train them. Plus it takes years to learn what I already know.. so they better pay or they will be without.
I honestly think that if they dont start treating their employees better they are gonna find out real quick who runs this company. Its not the CEO or Ops Manager, its the guys out there everyday making it happen, and their gonna walk..

They can do it, you just have to make them know you're worth it. I'll be rooting for you!

Good luck with that all man , I point out that you would be turning in all expences your run if you have to use your own vechile, cell and such for the Job. I know my cell not much ( 45 bucks for unlimited everything) but II can write it 50-65 % off cause it used mainly for snake removals and the little grass cutting I use ( the rest is mom and girlfriend calling me and the girlfriend the main calling of eveings lol..) I would also try to make sure you can line up another Job befoer you quit ( quitting = no unemployment in some areas ) and that would mean you be force to sell off snakes faster/sooner.

^^ Yep in this Country at this point in time I would damn well make sure I had something in reserve before I went into the bosses office making demands. Now negotiating is a whole different ball game...
-
Any time you make demands or ultimatums do so with your hand on the door and one foot out it and the other in the air..If they turn you down, be prepared to simply get up and walk out that minute and never return..the last time I did something like this I had already excepted another job and was giving them the chance to keep me. If they declined I had my letter of resignation in hand.. Best of luck.

I would say with the economy the way it is now is not the time to make demands. Be thankful you have a job. Take this from someone who has been out of work for 9 months.

Re: Work has screwed me long enough, Time to put my foot down.
So got everything I wanted. 13.75 an hour, take home car, company cell phone, 50% commission, and after probation I go up to 15.50.

Congrats! I'm glad you got what you wanted. :)

Congrats!
You just might have inspired me to put my foot down too, since my work has been screwing me pretty hard for pretty long, too!

Just be wary... if they hire a new guy and want you to help train him, start sending out resumes. :D
Only half kidding. Congrats regardless.

That turned out well. I'm glad you made the effort to accelerate your position. Time to celebrate!
