Very nice rich! Looking good. Isn't it fun when you need to bring more racks in as the Collection grows?

Yes its fun, the 6 racks are built, just need thermostats and flexwatt wired. Oh yea moving them in is also a PITA. Hoping to have everything moved into the room and wired before eggs are dropped next season..

    cool room!

love it. i wish i could breed mice. do you find their stink overwhelming/is it a lot of work to keep their smell down?

i breed ASF's and i just love that i can keep them in my office and get away with spot-cleans to keep their smell down. when non-reptile friends come over they even say they don't smell the ASF's!

When i was breeding ASF, i had about 150 of them and their smell cant get just as bad as mice. I clean every 3 days since room their in is 80F. Few times a day I open the window for a hour to vent out the room. This keeps smells down without cooling room down too much.

Very nice, how you liking the sentec rack? I've been eyeing their new CB70 build but looking for feedback from people with some of their stuff first.

They are awesome. Light weight, and do very well.

Normally their shipped with back heat, but with how its designed theres about 1/16th gap on bottom perfect for belly heat, which is what i have running in mine.

My sentec rack is no longer made as it was a prototype that uses abs plastic shelves. They now use PVC Foam board for the shelves. Its also enclosed compared to fully open. But im sure you can request either or.

Not to mention I live about 90 mins from Sentec so helps on shipping.

nice! thanks for the video. i was wondering if you have noticed any behavior changes with keeping your rodents in the same room as the snakes? i have been contemplating building an outdoor shed/barn and wasnt sure if i should plan on a room for rodents themselves or one big room for both.
    thanks

Nope the snakes can tell the difference from normal Room smell, including the rodents compared to a direct smell from opening tub and offering.

My snakes are very aggressive feeders, At times i cant even open tub fast enough and offer, their already shooing out at nothing.

Its up to you if you want everything separate or not. Ive been to a few ppls houses where rodents and snakes were in diff rooms. When this was done i noticed the rodent room stinks more since their in there less. When in same room, your smelling it more often and clean it more frequent.

Glad you're happy with your setup. I would:

    1. Get rid of the mice. They stink and bps can eat rats of different sizes their entire lives.

    2. Move the rats to another room. Your snakes CAN tell there is dinner in the air and are responding accordingly. Why tease them? Don't you handle your pets?

Obviously you've never hatched babies out when 99% of them dont take rats their first meals. Mice do not stink unless your too lazy to keep them clean. Mine dont stink as their clean every 3 days along with the rats.

And no They cant tell food is in room when they been in same room for 5+ years. They grow accustom to the smell and dont react to it. And when i do handle the snakes, guess what they dont bite.

Not ALL snakes will take rats, when you have a larger collection youll realize that. Ive had females after laying eggs NOT take rats again and required mice only few months.

The only thing you have said here that is true to a point is about the mice having a stronger smell. The rest is just plain INCORRECT :colbert:.Where are you getting this info? A book, if so throw it in the garbage.I have kept my rodent colonies in the same room with my snakes( up to 13ft retic) and it never caused a issue.Maybe your doing something wrong if your having issues :gj:

i believe i was once told that mice smell stronger because the males "mark" their territory.

aka they go around piddling every few centimeters instead of just peeing in one corner.

not sure how true that is though!

It is true, Males musk non stop which is why you dont want a lot of males, 1 or 2 per group for mice is all thats needed. Same with rats if you hold a rat he will drag and piss on you.

When your stock STINKS, it needs to be cleaned and if stinks day after cleaning you have too many males
