Do a search on here for mites. There was a thread about using dawn for a bath.
You need to get PAM (not cooking spray) Prevent a mite. I think you can also use the head lice spray in a pinch. Just search on here for mites.

No need for a vet...just treat the mites...like was said, do a search and you'll find plenty of info...

You need to clean everything in the enclosure, they can also live around your house too.
Then you need to treat with (what people here like to use) PAM or (what I have used) Natural Chemistry.

Go to walmart, get a can of equate lice bedding spray.

Clean enclosure, and spray lightly with equate, let dry for at least an hour. spray perimeter around enclosure also.

Prevent a mite. Its not very expensive. Heck even that crappy petco might have it. Just search for it online and have it shipped to you. Alot of people think u only get mites if u leave ur enclosures dirty which is not the case. I had them once and that prevent a mite took care of them quick fast and in a hurry

Mite Off totally doesn't work. Not even for temporary relief. My Jackson recently had mites, and they are completely eradicated now. I wouldn't say it's no big deal, but it is easily treatable. I am a total newbie! The wonderful people on here gave great advice on the subject.
Ok, for temp relief for your snake, give him a Dawn bath with just a drop of the dishsoap. I kinda swished it around a little to make light bubbleage. Just put it about as high as the snakes body so that he doesn't have to swim to keep his head up. (Do make sure to dunk his head in, though.) That drowned alot of mites, I could see them when I emptied the bowl. He had been sitting in his water dish and being irritable for days, after that bath there was a noticeable change in his disposition.
While he's soaking, you can clean out his tank with bleach and any of his decor and hides. Get all corners and crevices. Rinse REALLY well with hot water. I boiled his wooden stuff.
I also ordered the PAM, which I think took care of the problem totally. There are no more mites in my tank.:D

I used natural chemistry for a while, but our snakes were so badly infested that it had trouble keeping up. It's safer which is nice, but Prevent a Mite completely destroyed the mites faster than anything I have ever seen before! :O I'm sure with patience the natural chemistry would have worked, PAM was just faster for us.
