    I'm such an idiot!
Long story short, I can't even get home from a reptile show before I have a baby pastel missing from the bag. When I left the show, I took her out of the bag in my car, looked at her, smiled at my newest purchase, and put her safely back in the bag. Pulled the bag shut and headed home. Right before I got home, I decided to go pick up some extra paper towels for the tub. I left the windows down a couple inches just to keep some air flowing. When I got back from the store, I go to take her out of the bag, and it's EMPTY! The bag was on the seat. Could she have escaped and slithered out the window? Is that even probable?! I looked everywhere in the car. Would a baby snake try to get into the air vents? I'm going insane here. Any thoughts would be appreciated :please:

yes air vents are highly possible, you are first to loose a snake in the car, one member had to take the whole dash off to retrieve theirs, put windows up camp out next to car, and check periodically.

Anything is possible, but I would doubt that it went out the window. I would bet that it is still in the car some place, but it could be anywhere. I would slowly go through the car starting with the underside of the passenger seat where the bag was.

Jeez, I'll have to start looking into taking the dash off. I'm just really nervous, especially since it's a baby :( Thanks for the feedback :tears:

Well, I bought my Pin this Thursday night. The breeder's house is like 1 hour from my apartment, and I couldn't help myself but take the snake out of her tub, and was holding her with one hand, but my GF called me so I laid the snake right between my legs, so that I could have 1 free hand to answer. The call took longer than expected, and when I looked down, she wasn't there.

Once I found a place to pull over, I got out of the car and started looking for her, and after about 20 minutes I found her all balled up under the passenger's seat...

TL;DR version: check under the seats

I started taking the dashboard off, but then thought to check and see if there was any dust prints around an area where she could have gone in. There were none. Checked under the seats like a person with OCD, nothing, but noticed there is a patch where some wires go for the electric seat. I'll have to take the seat out to get to it, but at this point I'll do anything. It's the only place she could be. Other than that, she either got out the window, or somebody took her :rage:

Didn't you leave your car locked?

Did you check the door pockets?

Doubt someone took her unless you left doors unlocked. Doubt she went out the window. Keep looking. Bet shes in the corner balled up tight somewhere. I would try putting a rat in front of each area.
I dunno about your air vents, but mine aren't even close to being big enough for a ball python.

Car was locked, but even if it wasn't, I still have the bag she was in. I don't think someone would open the bag, take the snake, and then put the bag back lol That's why I'm thinking she crawled out the crack in the window, maybe someone saw her and grabbed her? Not sure, highly improbable though. I just sat in my car for 30 mins with silence. I'm thinking she's in the dash board, but it could be just my mind wishing shes in there and creating false noises in my head haha. I took out the passenger side seat, tried to get a peek under the carpet there, no luck. I gotta take out that dash board tomorrow. Worth a shot. Other than that I've looked high and low, so I think I'm totally SOL. I can try the rat idea though! I just hope she survives the night and it isn't too cold, or if it gets too hot tomorrow afternoon grrrrr :-/

Good luck ... I hope things are okay! Are there any holes on the bottom of the seats? Like, underneath? Could be inside the seat too. DAshboard definitely probable as well. Doubt you'd hear ANY noise no matter where she was though.

I can so see that snake being inside a seat. Underneath seats almost always has that crazy open inside. And remember, if you think something is too small for your snake to fit in, that's probably where it is! Good luck!!

So.. I lost my fire in my truck about a year ago on the move from NC to LA. had a rush between hotels and didnt tie her bag properly.

At any rate she was in the truck for about a week before I got her back, Which ended up with me setting out some water first, and finding the bowl tipped so I knew she was still in there. Got a f/t mouse all warmed out and I sat in my truck from 10pm untill 2am when she finally came out enough from inside of the body under the back seat, to grab her.

Like others have said there are plenty of small places she can be. Even more so if she's as small as you say she is. If she is that small and you only had the window cracked I dont think she would even be able to reach the top of the widow to pull herself out. My guess is she's still in there.

Omg so Scary. I'd crap my pants. Seriously. I think she's still in the car. But she's going to be in the worst. Most inconvenient spot. Good luck with finding her.

Oh my gosh that really sucks. There are a lot of places she could be hiding, and a lot of places that she could have gotten out. There are tons of cracks in every car around the dashboard and glove box. Good luck finding her!

Thank you guys for all the care and support. It's why I love this website. Unfortunately, I have not found her yet. Sariel, that was my next idea. I will be buying a rat tomorrow and put some water in the car. I'm hoping the smell of the rat will get her moving. I'm still very devastated, but trying to be optimistic. Thank you again guys!

What type of the car is it? You can google the make, model and year of your vehicle and get schematics of the interior. Local dealership can also pull these up if you can't find them online. Search the interior in a grid pattern. Can you park the car in a garage too cool it down? I live in the OC and the temps today are pushing 100. Cool the car down and then place a rat or mice inside.

    good luck

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D Got the little pest! I bought a little fuzzy rat, put it on the passenger side floor, waited 20 minutes, voila!!!!! She came crawling out from underneath the seat. The same seat I took out of the car and searched vigorously. UNBELIEVABLE. I have definitely learned a lesson. Keep track of your enclosures at all times. What a stressful weekend. PHEW! Thank you guys for the encouragement this whole time. I probably would have given up without you! THANKS AGAIN!!! Re: I'm such an idiot!
Right on!!!! Just a quick lost story. About 5 years ago my adult ball got loose in my garage while i was cleaning his cage. i left both of my cars inside because i didn't want to crank them on in case he was hiding somewhere under the hood by the engines. Luckily i had a motorcycle that i drove as my daily commuter. Everyday i did the f/t feeder in the middle of the garage with lights out and waited with a flashlight. 4 weeks later i heard some rustling around and found him between 2 boxes going toward the food. I learned a lesson from now on and place him in a big car cover storage bag with a drawstring whenever i clean his tank. Btw midge, do you go to reptile island in YL? If i run out of frozen feeders and need one in a hurry i hit them up and check out there stuff. Chris the mgr there is really cool. Just an fyi.
