Snake Skin
Just curious as to what everyone does with their snake's shed skin? Throw it out? Keep it?
-
Keep a few to use them during breeding season before throwing them. ;)
-
I throw mine out. It just seems "dirty" to have them lying around.

I guess you use them to stimulate there breeding behaviour, but how so? Male skin in with males or females?

Re: Snake Skin
The only one I kept was one that was one whole piece, from Head to tail. most of the time the head piece will break off or the or there will be little tears in it but one whole piece I have cept its hanging on my wall

Re: Snake Skin
I normally throw them out but will occasionally keep a really perfect one, which usually comes from a corn snake. My ball python sheds always seem to be scrunched up into a little ring, and I have yet to see a perfect one.
-
For some reason the shed skin really icks me out. I gagged a little when I cleaned out his tank. Urates, poop, rat blood- no problem. Shed skin? Ugh. It was kind of an unexpected reaction. I have the same aversion to human hair, though...:P

I usually keep the males for breeding, as Robin stated above. I do have a few pieces that I will be using for crafting.
-
I usually keep the very first full body shed and then all sheds after that get thrown away.

Re: Snake Skin
I'm curious as well about using shed skins for breeding. Does it trigger something, in the male and, or females? Is it just a superstition kind of thing? I'm dying to know!...LOL:D
I usually just throw them away, however my 4-4.5 ft bp (named: Balthazar, A.K.A: Mega) had a really nice solid shed, but it was wet, which made the skin soft enough to stretch out without it tearing into pieces, so I stretched it out, and put it on my front porch to dry while I was at work, sadly when I came home ants' had completely demolished it:( so now I just throw them away.

All my sheds so far have been perfect, and those "scrunched up" ones usually can be rolled out and are normally perfect as well, even though it reminds me of a condom :puke2:
Anyway, I give them to my ASF. They love em.
... that is unless I forget about it and the cats get to it. They love em too :-/

Yes by throwing one of your males shedded skin into a tub with a mating pair, can/will get the male going, when he can scent another male

Well, that makes sense, I can see how that would make them 'try' a little harder, thinking there is a little competition.

Both, I will put a moist snake skin from a another male with 2 animals being paired if the male seems to have a hard time doing the job.
Just like I will put another female snake's skin with two animal being paired if the female is not receptive.
I do not do it all the time only with those that seems to be a bit more difficult.

i keep the ones that arent nasty to give to my mom to take them to her school to show her students.. try to educate the kids ya know
-
I keep most of mine unless they have pee/poo on it. I give them to friends to help keep wild rats in check, I read it helps I have no idea if it does but my friend thinks so. I also use the best cleanest as fund raisers sometimes for the reptile rescue I work with. We 'sell' them for a donation.
-
I generally just keep them around. I want to do something artsy with them but haven't really coming up with anything yet...
Randomly my mom asked me if I had any that she could have. Still not sure why but I gave her a bunch.

I trash 'em. First I unroll them and make sure they are a nice, full shed, and then throw them away.
I know it's weird, but I really like unrolling them. Lol.

Re: Snake Skin
I only keep one of the nicest, full sheds as well...all others get trashed. I've got one near-perfect skin hanging over my closet door now with just a couple small tears in it.
