My cat unplugged my incubator!

My awful feline must have unplugged my incubator. I came home and noticed the temp dropped down to 82 so I went looking and it was unplugged. It couldn't have been for more than 6-7 hours, how bad is this?

i'm no pro but probably not that bad. its not super low plus in the wild i'm sure the temperatures aren't always perfect. good luck mate :)

Not bad at all, just plug it back in and slowly rise temps back and your good to go.

Better to drop low than spike high. I'm sure everything will be fine. :)

The big reason I do not have any cats. This is literally the 10th story I have read or heard of where a cat has done something potentially detrimental to someones herps. The worse I ever heard was a buddy of mine never lets his cat in the reptile room. Well one day it happened and it was very detrimental to his collection. The cat pulled three containers open and killed a good chunk of his knobtail collection. I just about stroked out when he called me with the news. Don't get me wrong cats have there plus's but for me I am too paranoid about my critters to take a chance. I really do not know what I would do if a cat decimated one of my very expensive snakes or geckos. As for the incubator 6 to 8 hours should not be a problem since your media probably kept the temps for a bit. I would suggest putting 2 to 5 gallons of water in some sort of container in the bottom of your incubator. This will give you a little thermal mass, and in return if your little feline does it again the water will help keep the temps up for a little longer period compared to just a bare incubator.

They'll probably be fine. You may even get some cool striping because of it. By the way...... BG taught your cat that. He teaches all him competitions pets this trick.;):D

Well she's very mischievous on a good day it's just her nature. I need to be better about keeping the reptile room closed. They are on day 32 and are the prettiest clutch I've ever seen so I hope it all stays good and I have no issues. This is only my second clutch so I'm still a little nervous.

Low is better than high, plug it back in. Do you have water bottles slowing the heat drop?

I think you will be just fine. I doubt 8 degrees for a few hours would be a big deal.

yet another reason i don't own a cat. I don't need to - everyone in the neighborhood seems to have one that they let roam freely outdoors and they love to use my bushes for a toilet. so not a big fan of cats.

I've read far too many horror stories on here regarding cats..and a couple regarding incubation mishaps...

I had this happen about 15 years ago. I had one of the first clutches of captive bred Mali Uros 5 days from due date and my BOBCAT jumped up on the incubator and hit the wingnut. Came home from work and they were at a toasty 112 degrees :rage: All died and all had color when cut :mad:

Our cats have already been warned. It would be very easy to convert them from beloved family pet to snake dinner. ;)

man i have seen pet bobcats...i can't imagine. Such beautiful animals...i just can't imagine what a 30 pound cat using a litter box would smell like ;)

We have wild ones EVERYWHERE around here.....stunning animals

Servals, serval hybrids (Savannah cat), and caricals are kept too. In GA, they require a permit for conservation, or demonstration/education; but in other states, they are kept as "pets".

yes sorry for the thread hijack. My 13 yo has been hounding me for a pet bobcat for 2 years and has done all the research. Not in the cards for him here though...he will have to wait! Already too many exotics ;)

Yeah, I like F1 Savannahs. No dice here though!
