At the moment, I am at work here in southeastern MA. It's been raining since about 1pm today, nothing too crazy though. Not a whole lot of wind just yet. The worst is supposed to be from 8a-8p tomorrow. I am enjoying all the overtime I'm getting from this storm :)

I'm here outside of Philly it ain't too bad actually...hopefully we get hit hard I've never been in a hurricane :) just kidding. Everybody stay safe edit: landsdale hasn't been hit quite yet

Jersey City here, been raining all day, not much wind yet. Supposed to start getting crazy soon though, hope everyone else is doing well

In central Virginia. No power. Trees down. Lots and lots and lots of rain. Glad we have a generator. One tree clipped the house and blocked the driveway. Not near as bad as Isabel but still pretty strong storm. All in all not too bad. Hope to get power restored in a day or two. Snakes all OK!

For once, I'm sitting in Florida watching hurricane warnings and news without having gotten anything. It's a little bizarre.
I hope all the folks in the path are safe!

Re: Irene Check -Ins
Last night, here on Oak Island NC, a lot of wind and rain. Only tropical storm type winds. The streets along the beach were flooded, some branches down and only a couple of trees were blown down. Today was just some wind gusts as it was finishing up. Late afternoon the sun came out and it was a nice ending to the storm. We didn't get hit as hard as I expected. Be careful and take care.

Actually, hurricanes often spin off a number of tornados, it's part of what makes them so dangerous.

Re: Irene Check -Ins
We made it through the hurricane from start to finish without losing power, sometimes the lights would flicker but stay on. Today from 3 PM to 7 PM the power company had to shut down the power for repairs in the neighborhood. There are a lot of down trees and flooding in Hampton Roads. There was minor damage to my property, no down trees.

Up here in Maine been strong winds and rain not sure what is going on (I am on the power grid with the hospital so no power outage here almost ever) but I have been hearing sirens for the last few hours a lot. Supposed to be getting worse as night goes on and thru tomorrow. People in other parts of the city have been saying their power is flickering.. hope it stays ok, flash flood warnings, I live by the river, water levels are super high like after the winter melt anyways hope all is well with everyone I am doing ok here so far!
-
I lost power for about 4 hours this morning. The rain has finally stopped but the wind has picked up and will be whipping 'til midnight so I expect to lose power again. Lights have been flickering and I can hear trees falling in the woods still.
There is going to be major flooding tomorrow when the Hudson and Mohawk rivers actually crest/peak, "historic" levels is the catch word on the local news. Schoharie county (about 45 minutes from me) has been totally shut down, the entire county, due to flooding and flooding concerns. The Schoharie creek is well over it's banks and still rising, major issues out that way. The Gilboa dam is over-topping and may actually fail, conflicting info on that but most of area around it has been evacuated. There are reports that it has actually cracked and shifted a bit because of all the water spilling over it. The official warning is: "A POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS SITUATION IS DEVELOPING AT GILBOA DAM. THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR DAM FAILURE." Yikes.
My friend lives near the Helderberg dam and left her home on foot, wading through 5' of water and washed out roads and bridges. Her area was under mandatory evacuation by the time she reached safety. That dam may fail as well, and if it does she will lose her house. She is only about 20 minutes from me.
My immediate area is fine for the most part, a lot of trees down but nothing like what my neighboring counties are seeing.
It's truly crazy here! Amazing really.
